Joseph High School Seniors Holly Taylor, Mia Ritter-Whittle and Noel Taylor won awards at the Oregon Thespian Northeast Regional Acting Competition last month. (KATY NESBITT/The Observer)
Three Joseph High School Thespians gave award-winning performances last month at the Oregon Thespian Northeast Regional Acting Competition in Sandy.
Holly and Noel Taylor won the Duo Novice Comic category. That qualifies them to compete with winners from the other regions at the State Acting Competition in April. They performed a cutting from “Lemonade” by James Prideaux.
Mia Whittle performed cuttings from “Antigone” by Jean Anouilh and “Goodbye, Charles” by Gabriel Davis in the Solo Acting Experienced category for which she won one perfect and one near perfect score in her rounds and received a regional qualifier ribbon.
The Joseph Thespian Troupe has competed infrequently at the Acting Competition since it was chartered in 1991.
In 1992, Will Roundy and Bart Latta won the Duo Novice Dramatic competition in Bend, when there were only 300 competitors in all the categories.
This year, Oregon Thespians sponsored three Regional Acting Competitions and registered more than 1,500 students.
The 2014 Northeast Regional Competition registered 16 schools and 571 students.
