Thirteen sheep killed in collision with car on I-84

Thirteen sheep were killed, a car caught fire and a driver was uninjured Monday night following a collision involving a passenger car and herd of sheep in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near Meacham in Northeast Oregon.

A 1998 Toyota Camry driven by Robert Anderson, 51, of West Richland, Wash., was westbound on I-84 near milepost 238 when it collided into a herd of sheep in the middle of the traffic lanes. The car came to rest on the side of the freeway where it caught fire and was subsequently a total loss after firefighters extinguished the fire.

The sheep, which belonged to a local ranch, were killed and later removed from the scene.
