Traffic stop leads to arrests

Two arrested on Secret Service, N.C. warrants

An early morning traffic stop on Monday led to the arrest of two fugitives in La Grande.

Just after 4 a.m. Monday, Sgt. Dusty Perry of the La Grande Police Department stopped a vehicle for a traffic stop.

Lt. Derick Reddington said the stop was for a relatively minor traffic infraction, but when Perry got information back on the two adults in the vehicle, he saw they were wanted on two out-of-state warrants.

Sidney L. Rogers, 29, unknown address, and Alisha Bailey, 28, unknown address, were arrested on the warrants, one of which was a United States Secret Service warrant charging counterfeiting. The other warrant, out

out of North Carolina, charged the couple with fraud.

Two children were in the vehicle at the time of the stop, police said.

“The two children that were present with them were handed over to DHS,” Reddington said, adding that they will likely be placed in the custody of family members once they arrive.

Rogers and Bailey also face local charges of giving false information to a peace officer.

Reddington said after the arrests, LGPD notified the Secret Service, which sent two agents to La Grande. The agents executed searches of the vehicle the couple was using and of the La Grande hotel room where the couple was staying.

Reddington said police do not believe the couple is connected to counterfeit bills found in downtown
La Grande last month.

“They supposedly just rolled into town and got a motel just a couple hours before they were stopped,” he said.

The couple will be transported today out of La Grande, Reddington said.
