OBITUARIES FOR APRIL 8 - 13, 2002

Susie L. Lewis

Imnaha

1916-2002

Susie L. Lewis, 86, of Imnaha died April 6 at a La Grande care center. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bollman Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St. in Enterprise.

Mrs. Lewis was born Jan. 13, 1916, to Frank and Olive Adeline Davis Pearson in North Powder. She married Manuel Leslie Wisdom and after his death in 1937 in a logging accident she married Garrett Samuel Lovell on Oct. 3, 1937. He died in 1975. She married Chet Lewis on July 6, 1979 in Joseph. He died in 1996.

Survivors include children, Skip Lovell of Toledo, Kyle Lovell of Prairie City, Marvin Lovell of Joseph and Edna Perrin of Union, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Elmer, Emery, Calvin and Alvin Pearson, and five sisters, Ruby Butler, Dorothy Tiffany, Peggy Ann Spence, Lois Campbell and Alta Maye Coates all died earlier.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity in care of Bollman Funeral Home.

Jean Elverson

La Grande

1919-2002

Jean L. Elverson, 82, of La Grande died March 31 at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, Wash. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., with Pastor Raymond Bates of the Sonrise Free Methodist Church officiating. A private burial will take place in the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding, Idaho.

Mrs. Elverson was born Dec. 5, 1919, to Robert and Della Alcanta Scanlan in Albion, Idaho. She graduated from Gooding High School in 1937 and from Links School of Business in Boise. From 1943 to 1945 she served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II and attained the rank of sergeant.

She married Elver G. Elverson on April 10, 1945, in Nyack, N.Y. The couple moved to La Grande, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Globe Furniture for many years before retiring in 1986.

She was a member of the Episcopal church and attended the Sonrise Free Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading and knitting. She spent her winters in Bremerton with her daughter.

Survivors include a daughter, Gayla Elverson of Bremerton, a brother, Edward Scanlan of Elgin, Ill., a sister, Jessie Sandy of Shoshone, Idaho, and other relatives. Her husband and two brothers, Glenn and Roy Scanlan, died earlier.

Memorials may be made to the Scleroderma Research Foundation in care of Daniels Chapel.

Owen Lucas

La Grande

1931-2002

Owen Gerald Lucas, 70, of La Grande died April 10 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. April 19 at New Life Four Square Church, 1090 N. First St., N.E. in Stayton with Pastor John Peterson officiating.

Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lucas was born May 7, 1931, to Owen T. and Ella Bell Hall Lucas in Outlook, Wash. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1954 and married Nancy Knight on Nov. 9, 1957, in Reno. Twenty-five years ago the couple moved to La Grande, where he worked for the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department before his retirement in 1993 after 38 years. He was a member of the Christian Church, the American Legion and the Eagles.

Survivors include his wife of La Grande; his mother of Florence; children and their spouses, Paul and Joanne Lucas of Sublimity, Dan and Rickie Lucas of Salem, and Dennis and Kelly Lucas of Idanha; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Briggs of California and Mary Lucas of Portland; and a brother, Ken Lucas of Kentucky.

His father and a brother, Ralph Lucas, died earlier.

Memorials may be made to Oregon State Parks or to the Alzheimer's Research Alliance of Oregon in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St.

Bill Mobley

Bill Mobley, 71, of La Grande, died Tuesday at a local care home. Arrangements will be announced later by Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Esther Barker

Esther Barker died this morning at her home in La Grande.

Arrangements will be announced later by Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
