OBITUARIES FOR JULY 22 - 27, 2002

Flora Alice James

Enterprise

1920-2002

Flora Alice James, 82, of Enterprise died July 19 at a Spokane, Wash., hospital.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise, with vault interment to follow at the Enterprise Cemetery.

Mrs. James was born March 24, 1920, at Colville, Wash., to Henry C. and Alice Campbell Kinsley.

After she married B.W. James, she drove a Cat, skidding logs, and ran log loading equipment during World War II.

In 1942, the couple moved to Republic, Wash., working for Deer Park and San Poil Lumber Co.

They moved to Enterprise in June 1955 to log for Mount Emily Lumber Co.

In 1960, they moved to their present home on Hurricane Creek and continued logging until 1970, when they switched to raising grain and cattle.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie Sullivan, and husband Edward Dee Sullivan; a son, Randy, and his wife, the former Barbara M. Riehl; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Fund in care of Bollman Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St., Enterprise 97828.

Earl D. Bonner

Earl Dawson Bonner, 86, of Irrigon died Saturday at a care center in La Grande.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the John Day Methodist Church.

Driskell Memorial Chapel in John Day is in charge of arrangements.

Delores Mable Lyman

Elgin

1913-2002

Delores Mable Lyman, 88, a former owner of the Elgin Recorder, died July 18 in Prineville.

There will be no service. Whispering Pines Funeral Home in Prineville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lyman was born Dec. 11, 1913, in Lead, S.D., to Ora and Vina Cooper Bryan. She attended school in Lead and Spearfish, S.D., and after graduation she worked as a tour guide in the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead.

She married Richard Lyman on Feb. 18, 1934, in Spearfish. She lived in Bozeman, Mont., for 12 years, until she moved to Elgin, where she and her husband owned the Elgin Recorder until 1965.

They moved to Corvallis, where she worked in the office of her husband and son's commercial printing company. She retired in 1975 and moved to Prineville in May 2002.

She is survived by her son, Robert B. Lyman of Prineville; daughters, Margaret and Delores of Portland and Janet of Alaska, and eight grandchildren.

Five brothers, two sisters, a son, Thomas Edward, and one grandchild, died earlier.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon State Library Talking Book and Braille Program, 250 Winter St. N.E., Salem 97301.

Ralph Ward

North Powder

1922-2002

Ralph Cole Ward, 80, of North Powder died July 17 at the home of his son. Burial was at Cove Cemetery. Gray's West and Co., Baker City, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ward was born April 1, 1922, to Glenn and Hattie Cole Ward in Baker City. He attended Eastern Oregon College and became a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Ponaganset and the USS Candid. Later he graduated from Kinman Business College in Spokane and married Muriel Houle in 1944. After a divorce he married Betty Warrick Burger in 1961. He was an accountant and comptroller for Boise Cascade Corp. at several locations and was part owner of Graystone Corp. in Seattle, where he was voted Boss of the Year by the Public Building Exchanges Club.

In later years, he was an administrative assistant at St. Anthony's Hospital in Pendleton and for nearly 20 years was the comptroller for Warm Springs Forest Products in Madras. He retired in 1993.

He was a member and past commander of the VFW and a member and past president of Kiwanis. He also served in many other organizations.

Mr. Ward enjoyed fishing on the Metolius River and being with his pets.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Russell Ward of Pendleton, Doug and Katie Ward, all of North Powder, and two sisters, Ardis Waters of Baker City, and Glenda Schaer of Corvallis.

His wife, an infant son, a sister, June LaVelle, and a brother, Raymond G. Ward, all died earlier.

Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice or Bethphage House in care of Gray's West and Co., P.O. Box 726, Baker City, 97814.

Carol Stella D'Agostino, 66, of Valley Stream, N.Y., died Thursday at Grande Ronde Hospital. A full obituary will be published later.

Russell William Kullman, 85, of Union and formerly of Dallas, Texas, died Friday at a care center in La Grande. A full obituary will be published later.

Ed A. Erickson

Eddy Allan Erickson, 54, of Elgin died Friday outside of Summerville. A complete obituary will be published later.
