Eula Alice Denmark, 86, La Grande, died Friday in 
La Grande. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.

 

Walter ‘Buzz’ E. Fulton

La Grande

Walter “Buzz” E. Fulton, 93, of La Grande, died Friday at Grande Ronde Hospital. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.

 

John Henry Harvey

Elgin

1964-2014

John Henry Harvey, 49, of Elgin died Jan. 30 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho, after a long illness.

A celebration of life will be announced later.

He was born to George and Ruby (Roper) Harvey on Oct. 23, 1964, in San Francisco. John graduated from Wallowa High School in 1983.

John was married to his first wife, Jana Sines, on June 1, 1991, and they had their son, Jamin “Hunter” Harvey, on Sept. 2, 1992. On July 23, 2011, John married Shelly Myers and lived with her and her two sons, Dylan and Ryan, in Elgin.

John was passionate about making a difference in other people’s lives. He worked as a helping professional in many people-oriented fields, including developmental disabilities, foster care, education, health care, mental health, in-home care and hospice. If anyone was in need, they could always count on John for support, family members said.

John had a deep love for his family and his many friends. He also adored his pets. He was an excellent cook, enjoyed entertaining and was especially fond of dancing. 

His favorite time of the year was the holidays, when he could engage in all of these activities. John possessed a wonderful sense of humor, and had a zest for life that was often contagious.

John is survived by his mother, Ruby, and her husband, Brenhard Bryant of Wallowa; his father, George and his wife, Lenoir Harvey, of Pacifica, Calif.; his wife, Shelly; stepsons, Dylan and Ryan Jones of Elgin; son, Jamin “Hunter” Harvey, and his son’s mother, Jana Fox, of Wallowa.

He is also survived by his brother, Russell Hawkins of Meridian, Idaho; sister, Lorena Hawkins of Walla Walla, Wash.; brother, Sean Harvey of Castro Valley, Calif.; sister, Lenoir Chanes of Gridley, Calif.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to any people-helping organization.

 

Lila Emmons

Formerly of Joseph

1917-2014

Lila Roberta (Whitmore) Emmons, 97, died Jan. 29 at Park Manor in Walla Walla, Wash. 

Lila was born on Jan. 13, 1917, to Harley and Merle (Knapp) Whitmore in a small house on Whisky Creek about 20 miles north of Enterprise. Lila was the fifth of seven children. 

She attended Enterprise High School and on Feb. 24, 1940, she married Louis Edwin Emmons. They farmed in various places in Wallowa county and had the first Grade A dairy in Joseph. They were members of The Wranglers riding club and involved in the first Chief Joseph Days.

Lila was also involved in other community activities. She was a 4-H leader and president of the Joseph PTA. 

They later moved to Enterprise, where Lila was a telephone operator and Ed worked for the state highway department. 

Lila was proceeded in death by her husband, Edwin, in February 1992. She was the last surviving child of her brothers and sisters, which include Mable Slaughter, Clarence Whitmore, Clifford Whitmore, Marie Cornwell, Carl Whitmore and Edna Sheets. 

She is survived by her children, Patricia Koch, and Terry Emmons and wife, Kathy Emmons; and grandchildren, Mark Butler, Christine Koch, Brett Emmons and Laurie Emmons Grenya. 

She is also survived by many grandchildren and extended family.

 

Mellissa E. Wood

Formerly of Summerville

1926-2014

Mellissa E. Wood, 87, of Vancouver, Wash., formerly of Summerville, died Jan. 31 at her residence. No services are planned at this time.

Mellissa was born May 11, 1926, in Cedar City, Utah, to Alfred and Joise (Marker) Fincher. She lived in Vale, Baker City and Vancouver. She was married to Jim Rowe, who is now deceased. She then married Fred Wood. She was an owner/operator of a restaurant.

Mellissa played music in a band called Fincher Four. She played the guitar, sang country western music and yodeled. She played for dances, nursing homes and at family gatherings. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She raised four children and entertained them with her guitar.

Mellissa is survived by two children, Fred Wood of Deer Park, Wash., and Lloyd Rowe of Medford. 

She was preceded in death by two spouses, Fred Wood and Jim Rowe, and daughters, Patti Gordius and Judy Boring.

Sharon Kay Dobson

Union

1939-2014

Sharon Kay Dobson, 74, of Union, died Feb. 3 at her residence. No services are planned at this time.

Sharon was born June 9, 1939, in Wichita, Kan., to Winton and Deloras (Gillette) Johnson. She resided in Kansas, Texas, Washington, North Carolina and Oregon. She attended schools in Washougal, Wash., from elementary through high school. She was married to Kenneth LeLoff, John Haats, Blair Dobson and Phil Rucker. 

She enjoyed traveling, camping, volunteering, sewing, swimming and skiing. She loved animals and spending time with her family.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Phil Rucker; sons, David LeLoff and his wife, Robin, of Clatskanie, Michael LeLoff and his wife, Connie, of Aloha, Thomas LeLoff and his wife, Jackie, of Rainier, and John Haats of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Terri Rowe of Tacoma, Wash.; brother, Delwin Johnson of California and sister, Donna Dobbins and her husband, Dan, of Oregon; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four nieces and nephews. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, and granddaughter, Amy LeLoff.
