Obituaries for January 1, 2014

Bechtel, Criss, Ortiz, Fowler

June Bechtel

La Grande

June Bechtel, 94, of La Grande, died Monday at her home with family by her side. A full obituary will be published later.  Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.

Patrick ‘Pat’ William Criss

Patrick “Pat” William Criss, 59, of Cove, died Dec. 24 with his wife by his side at Grande Ronde Hospital.

A celebration of life will take place at 1 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show Club House in Union with a potluck and dance to follow. For potluck information, call 541-910-7791.

Pat was born on Jan. 24, 1954, in Red Bluff, Calif. He resided in various parts of Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming and Oregon, often in remote areas.

Pat was known as “our man who always smiles.” He was a cowboy, a brushpopper. He pretty much made his living either on top of a horse or under one. He did most everything he set out to do.

Pat loved his mustangs and starting “not so young” horses. He enjoyed driving sleighs, logging and feeding with a team. He worked with iron and did forge work throughout his life. He taught shoeing and hackamore clinics, was an adviser for corrective shoeing and worked with young and novice riders. He shod horses for 45 years.

Pat loved the Lord, lived every day and will be missed, his family said.

Pat is survived by his wife, Kristy, and his immediate family: Rowdy Paradis; Justin Wright and his wife, Carol Ann; Jason Wright and his wife, Heather, and seven grandchildren.

She attended Pacific Union College in California and Loma Linda University in Loma Linda. She met and married the love of her life, George A. Ortiz.

Lola was employed as a physical therapist for many years. She enjoyed bird watching, hiking, cooking, her grandchildren, church, being the school treasurer and feeding the homeless. She was a Queen for a Day runnerup and was a member of the SAGE organization.

Lola is survived by her husband, George; daughters, Laurie K. Hosey and her husband, Boyde, of Anchorage, Alaska; Alicia Jean Pearson and her husband, Dean, of Loma Linda; son, James George Ortiz and his wife, Cindy; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and more than 60 nieces and nephews.
