Bohnenkamp, Howland-Spriet, Jones

 


 

George A. Bohnenkamp

Formerly of La Grande

 

George A. Bohnenkamp, 83, of Kuna, Idaho, and formerly of La Grande, died Dec. 29 at a Boise hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Parlor of Garden City, Idaho.

 


 

Lorene Howland-Spriet

La Grande

Lorene Geneveave Howland-Spriet, 91, of La Grande, died Dec. 31. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel in Baker City. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 10 at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel.

Lorene was born in Lone Pine to Mabel May (York) and James Otho Hall. 

She married James “Jimmy” Clifford Howland Feb. 5, 1938, in Caldwell, Idaho. From this union were born 10 children: Clifford Howland (Debbie) of Fishers, Ind.; Nita Powell (Carl) of La Grande; Vernon Howland of Baker City; Tera Cassie of Boise, Idaho; Michael Howland (Darlene) of Umatilla; John Howland (Candy) of Huntington; Edwin Howland (Betty) of Boise; Nelda Petitt (George) of Huntington; Lela Stangle of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Marla Coalwell (Jerry) of John Day. Jimmy died Feb. 10, 1953.

Lorene later met Willie Alphons Spriet and they married Feb. 25, 1955, in Pasco, Wash. From this union were born two children: Mary Spriet and Wilma Hawk (Harold) of Huntington.

Lorene spent her last years in La Grande and her final days at Wildflower Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; siblings, Millie Mann, Ada Haney, Dorothy Henner, Glenn Hall, Edward Hall and Donald Hall; and children, Bill Howland, June Wolf and Mary Spriet.

Survivors include her twin sister, Irene Martin of Caldwell, and 50 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

 


 

Maretta Jones

La Grande

1934-2012

 

Maretta Jones, 78, of La Grande, died Dec. 30 at a local care facility. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Union Cemetery. Memorial services this summer will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory.

Maretta was born April 12, 1934, in Baker to Dave and Zelma (Simmons) Hunt. After graduation from high school, she attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Maretta worked for many years as an executive secretary for a bank in New Mexico. She was married to Vernon Jones for 35 years.

Maretta was an avid reader and an excellent letter writer. She loved gardening and working outside. She put in a huge garden to harvest and canned much of it. She was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed singing and harmonizing. Maretta was a stalwart member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of capacities.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Shannon Mary Anderson.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon Jones of Union; children and their spouses, Deborah and Larry Warburton of Union, Victoria and Phil Williams of Phoenix, Ariz., Adam Anderson of Orlando, Fla., and Jesse and Erin Jones of Rome, Italy; stepsons and their spouses, Vernon Thomas Jones Jr., James Lewis and Marie Jones of New Mexico, Robert Lee and Marty Jones of Columbus, Ohio, David Ray and Elizabeth Jones of New Mexico, and Kenneth Wayne Jones of Florida; siblings and their spouses, Mary Knowles of Linden, Utah, David and Gloria Hunt of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Don and Lawnie Hunt of Spring City, Utah, and Marjory and Jim Kerns of Haines; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren
