Korn, McCarver, Clemens, McCoy, Guthrie

Lavon A. Korn


Funeral services for Lavon A. Korn, 81, of Wallowa will be June 27 at Alsap Funeral Home in Nampa, Idaho, and June 29 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Wallowa. Korn died June 11. Times of the services will be announced later. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 Harry C. ‘Charles’ McCarver


Harry C. “Charles” McCarver, 90 of Union, died Wednesday at a local care facility. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handing the arrangements.


Vanessa Louise Clemens

La Grande


Vanessa Louise Clemens, 76, of La Grande, died from congestive heart failure, at her residence with her family by her side June 9. 

Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on McAllister Road in Island City at 2 p.m. Thursday. Interment was at Summerville Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends preceded the service. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Vanessa was born July 31, 1937, in Newberg to Joseph Michael and Anne Francis (Pondelicek) Kotera. She lived in Baker City, where she graduated from Baker City High School. 

She married Elton Clarence Clemens, her beloved husband of 45 years while in Baker City.  She also lived in La Grande, Summerville and Vancouver, Wash. She finally returned to La Grande in 1994, upon her husband Elton’s illness, to be closer to family. 

Elton and Vanessa owned their own business, Eastern Oregon Supply, where she was also the bookkeeper. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served as president of the Relief Society.  She thoroughly enjoyed reading and playing pinochle. Vanessa was a talented oil painter. She loved to go hunting alongside her family. She was an expert at canning, baking and floral arranging and lovingly taught her children and grandchildren these skills. She was a master gardener and loved her flower beds, birds and all nature. She was a loving caretaker. Her greatest love was her family.

Vanessa is survived by three children and their spouses: Daniel and Stacy Clemens of Summerville; Joni and Jody Minica of
La Grande; Julie and Ray Wegner of Alaska; one sister, Victoria Nelson of Walla Walla, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, one sister and two brothers.

 Warren H. McCoy



Warren H. McCoy, 92, died June 3 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Columbia View Community Church in Irrigon. Burial with military honors will follow at the Desert View Memorial Cemetery in Irrigon.

He was born May 17, 1921, at Imbler, to Rufus M. and Ruth M. (Graybeal) McCoy. He was raised in Imbler and graduated from Imbler High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Canberra. He married Frances Betty O’Rourke on March 6, 1945. They lived in Boston for seven months before moving to Irrigon, where they had lived since.

Warren worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as a crane operator until his retirement. He was a member of the Hermiston VFW Desert Post No. 4750 and was a former state commander, a member of the Irrigon City Council, a Morrow County School Board member, a former Morrow County commissioner and he attended the Columbia View Community Church in Irrigon.

Warren enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, gardening, watching old western movies and loved watching high school sports. He was always at the games supporting his grandchildren through the years.      

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie McCoy-Burns of Irrigon; son, Roger “Mike” McCoy of La Grande; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Frances McCoy, in December of 2012; daughter, Susan Loraine McCoy Simmons, in 2008; brothers, Bennie, Chase and Mac McCoy; and sister, Birdie Stewart.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Post 37 American Legion Flag Project.

Tristan Avery Guthrie



Tristan Avery Guthrie, 16, of Cove, died at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane, Wash., on June 1. A celebration of Tristan’s life was held at the home of Leann and Gordon Ollendorf on June 8.

Tristan was born Sept. 7, 1996, in La Grande to John and Cindie Guthrie. He was raised in Cove and completed his sophomore year at Cove High School just prior to his death.

Tristan loved all video games. He loved to sign in choir. He loved his dog, Rosie, and he enjoyed camping and swimming. Tristan played softball at school play day and was able to hit the ball. Tristan had disabilities. He has lived with his foster parents, Gordon and Leann Ollendorf, for the past three years. He was always really happy. He could make anyone smile.

The family expresses many grateful thanks to all of Tristan’s teachers and aides who were with him for more than eight years.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to help with Tristan’s funeral expenses. Contributions can be made to Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St.,
