Lavon Arzelia Korn
Lavon Arzelia Korn died at Country Rose Manor in La Grande on June 11.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Alsap Funeral Home in Nampa, Idaho, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at St Pius Catholic Church in Wallowa with burial to follow at the Wallowa Cemetery. Bollman Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements..
LaVon was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Kuna, Idaho, to Vaughn Ray Roark and Madge Harlan.
The family lived in Nampa, Idaho, and she attended Nampa High School, graduating in 1950.
Lavon was married to Leo Andrew Korn on May 25, 1953, in Nampa after Leo was discharged from the service.
She worked as a seamstress for Joanne Interiors, in independent sales for Avon and Tupperware, and was self-employed with L&A Drapes & Windows, fabricating custom window coverings.
LaVon was very talented, family members said. She loved doing many types of needlework, such as crocheting and Japanese embroidery. She made awesome table cloths. Whether it was working with beads, making beaded chandeliers or quilting, she was very crafty with her hands. Lavon also tried her talent at painting.
Through the hard time of losing her husband and two sons, Lavon was still a strong woman, her family said. They said Lavon was a woman of few words, had a heart of gold and her smile made people know she loved them.
Survivors include daughter, Susan Archuleta (Dan) of Imbler, Sally Orr (Kevin) of Nampa and Andre’ Schellhaas (Bruce) of Hillsboro; brother, Wayne Roark (Shirleen) of Meridian, Idaho; sister, Marjorie Ward (Dave) of Nampa, Idaho; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Dying earlier were her husband, Leo Korn, and sons, Michael and Christopher Korn.
Doris H. Duckett
Doris H. Duckett, 87, of Elgin, died Saturday at Robins Nest. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.
Nide H. Huffman
Nide H. Huffman, 88, of La Grande, died Friday at Vista Specialty Care. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.
Edward ‘Ed’ Kornblum
Edward “Ed” Kornblum, 76, of Union County, died Saturday at Wildflower Lodge Assisted Living Facility in La Grande. Arrangements are under the direction of Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home.
Helen M. Phifer
Helen M. Phifer, 95, La Grande, died Sunday at her home. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.
Keith Rolland Murphy
Keith Rolland Murphy, 86, of La Grande, died June 20 at a local care facility.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande.
Private interment will be at the Island City Cemetery.
Keith was born on July 26, 1926, the son of Alvah W. and Flossie E. (Rollins) Murphy in Cove. He attended Cove High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served for six years before his honorable discharge.
He returned to Union County and worked for M.J. Goss Motors, then for Turns (Zimmerman’s) Furniture Store before going to work for the La Grande School District in the Maintenance Department.
On April 3, 1957, he married Evelyn Fitzgerald in Salem. They attended the First Christian Church and enjoyed square dancing. He loved wood working and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a collector of knives and stamps and adored his Yorkie dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of La Grande; children, Bafford of Hermiston, Diana Loe of La Grande, Linda Howell of Boise and Marian Murphy of Texas; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Murphy.
