Billie Lee Britton

Enterprise

1927-2013

Billie Lee Britton (Bill), 85, died March 13 from cancer at his home in Enterprise with family by his side.

Bill was born on Sept. 17, 1927, in Condon to Claud Britton and Violet Ruth Munger.

After he finished eighth grade at the age of 14, he went to Klamath Falls, and worked in the barley harvest.

Then he went to Hood River and worked in the apple harvest cold storage unit. He then went to Arlington and worked in the grain harvest. Then, Bill went to Nyssa.

He was in the Navy Nov. 24, 1944, to July 18, 1946, serving in World War II stationed in Hawaii and was in Saratoga aircraft carrier CB3.

After coming out of the Navy, he went to Wallowa County in 1946. He worked for Lewis milking cows in a dairy farm in Lostine for 15 years. He worked at the Wallowa County Grain Growers from 1957 to 1959.

Then he decided to start farming. He farmed from 1959 to 1973.

In 1973, Bill went back to work at the Wallowa County Grain Growers until he retired in
1992.

Bill enjoyed times in the high mountains. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening, and most of all he loved his cows and chickens.

Bill loved watching his granddaughter Stephanie play baseball and go to state.

Bill was a voracious reader, enjoying Louis L’Amour westerns. He had read almost every book by his favorite authors.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Connie Britton of Weston; a granddaughter; sister, Eunice Lutje of Lacey, Wash.; two stepdaughters Barbara Byerley of Weston and Peggy Prince of Wallowa; and a stepson, Wayne Windsor of Scappoose.

Bill was preceded in death by his second wife, Virginia Louise Britton; his father, Claud and mother, Violet; three brothers, Vernon, Dewey and Meril. and his granddaughter, Stephanie Britton.

At his request, there will be no services.
