Ruth Ida Baremore
Ruth Ida Baremore, 97, of Wallowa, died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours on May 7 following a brief illness. She was one month shy of her 98th birthday.
A graveside service officiated by Archie Hook will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wallowa Cemetery, with a potluck to follow at the Wallowa Senior Center.
Born June 8, 1915, in Gardenville, Pa., she was one of three children born to Clayton and Irene Klees. Ruth spent most of her childhood years in Missoula, Mont. She met Jack Baremore there and married him in 1936. They had four boys: Jack Lee, James Edward, Richard Charles and Danny Ray. They spent the first 20 years of their marriage in various towns in Oregon and Washington. Ruth said they moved 13 times the first year of their marriage, and that they never lived anywhere more than five years.
However, in 1956, Jack and Ruth bought a ranch and moved to Promise with their four boys. In September 1960, Jack was killed in a logging accident. Ruth remained in Promise with her youngest son, Danny, until 1974, when they moved to Wallowa.
Ruth was a tiny lady who was fiercely independent and self-sufficient. She loved riding horses and cared for her own cattle and sheep until one of the sheep knocked her down and broke her hip at the age of 90.
Ruth seldom missed the livestock sale in La Grande, and never missed an opportunity to go to Kentucky Fried Chicken. Above all, Ruth loved her four children, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren and treasured her time with them.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister; her husband, Jack; her son, Jack Lee; and her grandson, Ronald Lee. Ruth is survived by Jack Lee’s wife, Karen Baremore of Union; Jim Edward (Diane) of La Grande; Richard Charles (Legha) of La Grande; and Danny Ray (Sue) of Wallowa; as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
