John Arthur Bean Jr.


John Arthur Bean Jr., 79, Union, died Tuesday at Rimrock Retirement home in Maupin. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

La Grande


Milo “Gene” Walker, 82, of La Grande, died Nov. 17 at a local care center. A celebration of life will take place at 10 a.m.  Saturday at Loveland Funeral Chapel in La Grande. Burial will be at Summerville Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held at
8:30 a.m. Saturday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

Gene was born on Jan. 8, 1931, in La Grande to Kenny Emmett and Reta (Irvin) Walker. He attended La Grande High School and Eastern Oregon College. He moved to San Rafael, Calif., where he worked for the California Highway Department and obtained his Surveyor License. He married Maria Pastora Arana in 1957. After retirement, Gene and Maria returned to La Grande.

Gene enjoyed rifle shooting, hunting, fishing, farming and snowmobiling. He belonged to several clubs including the Gun Club, Snowmobile Club, Four Wheeler Club and the Rusty Wheels Vintage Car Club. He was actively involved with the La Grande High School Class of ’49.

Gene is survived by his four children: Emmett (Debbie) Walker of Hermiston; Lydia (John) Collins of San Rafael; Glenda Walker of Anchorage, Alaska; and Robert (Sally) Montes of California. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a brother, Ken Walker, of Union. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Maria, and his sister, Arvella Lukenbill.
