Cordero, Cox, Bean Jr., Forte, Kissel



Louie Cordero



Louie Cordero, 71, of Union, died Tuesday at Grande Ronde Hospital. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.



Eva C. Cox



Eva C. Cox, 68, Elgin, died Tuesday at her home. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory will be handling the arrangements.


John Arthur Bean Jr.




John Arthur Bean Jr., 79, of Union, died Nov. 19 at Canyon Rim Manor in Maupin. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Union Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Union Baptist Church.

John was born on Sept. 13, 1934, in Los Alamos, Calif., to John Arthur and Edith Matilda (Raft) Bean. John resided in Los Alamos and Prineville, Union, Dufur and Maupin. 

He graduated from Santa Ynez High School. He served the country while in the United States Air Force for four years. John married Evelyn in 1964. The couple was later divorced. 

John was employed as a ranch hand, and he was the grounds caretaker for Eastern Oregon Livestock Show in Union, where he was also a director until his death. He was an active member of the VFW, High Valley Post. 

John enjoyed rodeos, church activities and the rodeo Bible camp. In his early years, he enjoyed team roping. He was actively involved in working with the Union VFW and the Baptist Church during school

John is survived by Evelyn; sister, Madeline (Lynn) Hughes of Los Alamos; brothers, Gerald Bean, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Jim Bean of Santa Maria, Calif.; and extremely close friends J. D. and Chris Elam and family, of Dufur. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith Bean. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Oregon Christian Cowboy Rodeo Bible Camp or the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show Foundation in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St., La Grande OR 97850.

Lois Mabel Forte

La Grande



Lois Mabel Forte, 85, of La Grande, died Nov. 22 at her home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1511 26th St., La Grande.   

Lois was born on June 24, 1928, the daughter of Frank James and Hazel (Woods) Bogart in Camas, Wash. She graduated from Commerce-Cleveland High School in Portland. She worked in the food service industry as a cook for 35 years and then spent 20 years in the home health care industry, until she was 80 years of age. 

She moved to La Grande from Bend in 2001. She was one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. She enjoyed gardening, reading and crafts.

Survivors include her children, Robert Godfrey of Gresham, Cheryl Robinson of Cove, Debra Hardie of Apple Valley, Minn., and Janis Laisner of La Grande; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and other relatives. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and sisters, and one daughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses — note: For World Wide Work. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.



Mildred ‘Milly’ Bernice Kissel




Mildred “Milly” Bernice Kissel, 83 of Union, died at a local care facility Nov. 24. At her request, there will be no services. 

Mildred was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Wheatland, Wyo., to Paten and Bernice (Wissman) Shepard. She resided in Wyoming and Union. Mildred had been married to Donald Kissel for 61 years.

Mildred was employed at Grande Ronde Hospital and volunteered at the Union County Museum. Mildred is remembered by all who knew her as an exceptionally kind and caring person. 

Mildred’s family was the center of her world. Mildred is survived by her husband, Donald; daughters, Ella Fitzgerald and her husband, Brian, of Dupont, Wash., and Barbara Stewart and her husband, Phil, of Portland; sisters, Patricia Kissel of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Dorothy Krebs of Gold Hill; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St., La Grande OR 97850.
