Wendi D. Gafford

Formerly of Elgin

1964-2012

Wendi Dawn (Bonney) Gafford, 48, formerly of Elgin, died Oct. 8 at OHSU in Portland after a battle with cancer. Services will be announced at a later date.

Wendi was born May 18, 1964, in Denver, Colo. She moved with her family to Portland in 1966 and then to Elgin in 1975. After graduating from Elgin High School in 1982 Wendi wanted to travel and see the world. She got a job with an oil rig company working in the Gulf of Mexico. There Wendi met and married her first husband, John Gafford. They had twin sons in 1990, Garrett and Mathew. Wendi enjoyed living in Texas, raising her boys and perfecting her cooking skills.

Later Wendi returned to Oregon with her boys and settled in the Gresham area, where she met her second husband, Keith Dunn. Her family grew with the addition of Keith’s two sons and three daughters. Wendi loved being a parent to this big family. She was a wonderful hostess and spent many hours devoted to catering family gatherings.

Wendi’s greatest joys were loving her family and the Lord. She never gave into the idea that she wasn’t going to win her battle with cancer, and that attitude has inspired her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Topchi.

Survivors include her parents, Robert Bonney of Elgin and Judy Larkin of La Pine; sons, Garrett Gafford, Mathew Gafford and John Speer; daughters Alicia Dunn, Shyanne Dunn and Jenn Martin; 14 grandchildren; brothers, Earl, Jeff, Bob, Ron, Brian and Todd Bonney; sisters, Sandra Gore and Charlene Moore; and a multitude of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
