Ariel S. Bean

La Grande

 

Ariel S. Bean, 89, of La Grande, died Oct. 29. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, corner of 12th and Gekeler in La Grande.

 


 

Lee Roy O’Mohundro

La Grande

1954-2012

 

Lee Roy O’Mohundro, 58, of La Grande, died Oct. 22 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla, Wash. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. Interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery.

Known as Lee, he was born July 3, 1954, in La Grande to Lewis Roy and Dorothy Christine (Petersen) O’Mohundro. Lee graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1972. 

A longtime resident of La Grande, Lee was often seen walking around town with his dog, Chaco.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy C. O’Mohundro; a sister, Leslee A. O’Mohundro; and his grandparents.

Survivors include his father, Lewis R. O’Mohundro of La Grande; brother and sister-in-law, Richard L. and Debbie A. O’Mohundro; sister and brother-in-law, Sue O’Mohundro-Bailey and David H. Bailey; son, Kruz Schwebke; two nephews and two nieces; companion, Christina Teeple; and Chaco. 

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

 


 

 

William Aschenbrenner

Enterprise

1921-2012

 

William Aschenbrenner, 90, of Enterprise and formerly of La Grande and Cove, died Oct. 9. A memorial dinner for family and friends will begin at 1 p.m. Nov. 10, at the VFW Hall in Enterprise. Arrangements are under the direction of Bollman Funeral Home.

Known as Bill, he was born Dec. 20, 1921, in La Center, Wash., to Margaret and William Aschenbrenner Sr. The family later moved to Heppner, and when Bill was five years old they moved to Zumwalt. He completed eight years of school at the Zumwalt schoolhouse, then attended high school in Enterprise for a short time.

Bill helped on the ranch until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in September 1942. After training at several bases in the U.S., he boarded a troop ship at Camp Kilmer, N.Y., and sailed to Belfast, North Ireland. His outfit landed on Normandy Beach 28 days after D Day. He was an ambulance driver and litter bearer in combat with the 8th Medical Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, from July 8, 1944, to May 8, 1945. Bill was awarded an EAME Service Medal with three bronze stars, a good conduct medal and a Purple Heart. He was discharged in October 1945.

In May 1946 Bill married Rita Shelvin. They lived in Enterprise and raised four sons. He worked in sawmills in Enterprise, Joseph and La Grande, retiring from the Boise Cascade mill in La Grande on Dec. 31, 1983, where he had been head saw filer for seven years.

After living in La Grande and Cove for 11 years, Bill and Rita returned to Enterprise, where they spent many happy years near family and friends and enjoyed hunting, fishing, RV camping, riding ATVs and traveling in the Western states and Mexico. Bill’s health was failing and he spent the last several months of his life at the Wallowa Valley Care Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stan; daughter-in-law, Lori; and two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Rita; sons and their spouses, Larry and Judy, Dan and Donna, and Steve; daughter-in-law, Susie; sister, Vivian Rudger; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

 


 

 

James M. Hall

Enterprise

1928-2012

 

James Myers Hall, 84, of Enterprise, died Oct. 26 at his home. Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Enterprise Community Church, with vault interment to follow at the Enterprise Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bollman Funeral Home.

Known as Jim, he was born June 2, 1928, to Kenneth and Onda (Myers) Hall in Enterprise. On Feb. 14, 1951, Jim married Nancy Lee Keener.

Jim was a foreman for the Public Works Department in Enterprise. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a reserve deputy sheriff and EMT.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother and one sister.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Bill and Beth Hall of Rifle, Colo., Vicky Hall of Gilbert, Ariz., Onda and Mike Humers of Powell Butte and Patty Jo and Les Lathrop of Adams; and 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the NRA in care of Bollman Funeral Home, Box 547, Enterprise 97828.
