Garoutte, Doyle, Burns Eddie Darrel Garoutte, 78, formerly of La Grande, died April 11 at Marquis Nursing Home in Boise.A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center in La Grande. Eddie was born April 16, 1930, to Darrel and Blossom Garoutte in Portland. He enjoyed his childhood and had many fond memories of his young life while growing up in Cottage Grove. In 1949, upon graduation from Union High School in Cottage Grove, Eddie went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad for a brief time, but returned to what he loved — the timber industry. He continued to work in the timber industry most of his life. In 1992 he retired from Boise Cascade in La Grande. Eddie loved hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling and won many awards in archery. Playing golf was Eddie’s passion, and he was a member of the La Grande Country Club. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family. Eddie is survived by his two brothers, Larry Garoutte of Austin, Texas, and Greg Garoutte of Meridian, Idaho; three sons, Chris Garoutte of Fort Washington, Md., Darrel Garoutte of Meridian and Todd Garoutte of Caldwell, Idaho; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Eddie was preceded in death by his father; his mother; and his wife, Billie (Hogan) Garoutte. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
