Eileen M. Gross

La Grande

Eileen May Gross, 91, of La Grande, died April 19 at a local care center. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude Quigley

La Grande

1915-2009

Gertrude Quigley, 93, of La Grande and formerly of Lewiston, died April 14 at Grande Ronde Hospital. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude was born June 30, 1915, to George Monroe and Sara Ellen (Shaffer) Ross in Asotin, Wash. She graduated from Asotin High School with the Class of 1935. On Dec. 10, 1938, she married Russell Quigley and they made their home in Lewiston. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1981.

Gertrude worked in a cannery for a time and later did housekeeping and child care. She lived in Lewiston until 2000 when she moved to John Day to be near her niece, Glenna Isley and family. In 2006 she moved with the family to La Grande. She maintained her own apartment and lived and cared for herself. She had a terrific memory and enjoyed traveling, gardening and crocheting. She was an avid reader.

Survivors include five nieces, three nephews, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and two great-great-nieces, Arleigh and Eleanor Des Jardin of La Grande and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Glenn, Fred and Marvin Ross; and sisters, Grace Tady and Louise Pitchford.
