Hale, Knox, Bates, Weeks
Dan Hale, 59, of La Grande, died April 26 at his residence. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
William J. Knox
William Joseph Knox, 56, of Joseph, died April 25 in La Grande. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of the arrangements. An obituary will be available later.
Floyd B. Bates
Floyd B. Bates, 85, of Cove, died April 5 at his home. At his request there will be no services. Those who wish may sign the online guestbook at www.danielsknopp.com.
Floyd was born May 14, 1926, in High Valley to Maude and Cecil Bates. He attended school in High Valley.
After school he went into the U.S. Army Air Force. While in the service he went to cook and baker school. He was then stationed in Japan. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force and returned home to Cove. He went to work for the State Highway Department and then went to work cutting logs.
In September 1950, he married Wilmerth Bristow. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Wilmerth of Cove; three children, Eugene “Gene” Bates of Union, Kathy Musick of Cove and Sylvia Aldrich of Union; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Imie Bristow; and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by one great-grandson.

Fred L. Weeks
Fred Leonard Weeks, 66, of Elgin, died April 23 after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis for many years. At his request there will be no public services at this time. Those who knew Fred are invited to leave a message for his family and sign the online guestbook at www.danielsknopp.com.
Fred was born Jan. 27, 1946, to Herman Parker and Theresa Jean (Wohlschlegel) Weeks in Vancouver, Wash. He was raised in Newberg and graduated from high school there.
He lived in Central Oregon for a time and married Barbara Huffman there on Dec. 19, 1981.
He worked as a truck driver most all of his adult life, moving mobile homes. They lived in Woodland, Calif., for over two years and moved to Elgin in 1991. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1983 but worked hard to overcome it and was able to continue working until 2004 when his condition declined. He enjoyed hunting and fishing
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Weeks of Elgin; children, David Weeks of Aloha, Angela (Brandon) Rossman of Redmond and Charlie (Tika) Weeks of Medford; step-children, Donna and (Mike) Torgeson of Albany and Darin (Renee) Williams of Kuna, Idaho; siblings, Donald (Joyce) Weeks of Newberg and Laura (Dale) Swensen of Sherwood; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
