Obituaries for the day of April 30, 2009 Robert ‘Bud’ Cox North Powder A memorial graveside service for Robert “Bud” Cox, who died Feb. 17, will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the North Powder Cemetery. A reception will follow at North Powder Grange.
La Grande Gerald “Jerry” Young, 76, of La Grande, died April 29 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla. A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at McKenzie Theatre at Eastern Oregon University. A reception will follow. A complete obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Wayne R. Frazier La Grande 1955-2009 Wayne R. Frazier, 54, of La Grande, died April 21 at his home. A memorial service is planned for a later date. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements. Wayne was born Jan. 19, 1955, to Walter and Lucille (Moreau) Frazier in Attleboro, Mass. He served with the U.S. Navy and enjoyed rebuilding cars. He was married to Elaine Downs Nov. 5, 1994, in Washington state. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Frazier; stepchildren, Jessica L. Kellogg, Holly C. Curtis and Justin Adair; siblings, Lynn Zellynsky and Robin; two step-grandchildren; and other relatives. Frederick A. Ott Formerly of Island City 1933-2009 Frederick Arthur Ott, 75, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and formerly of Island City, died April 22 at home of natural causes. At his request there will be no services. A family gathering is planned for later in the summer. Fred was born Dec. 15, 1933, to Laura (Smith) and Fritz Ott at the Smith farm on Pumpkin Ridge. He was born in the same house his mother was born in. He entered the Navy at the age of 17, serving on the USS Bremerton during the Korean War. Upon discharge at the rank of Quarter Master 3rd Class, he embarked on a career in sales including alarm systems and insurance. A former Toastmaster, Fred often entertained his friends with humorous lyrics and poetry. On the golf course, he was always up for a challenge, and all who knew him well avoided any bets on the putting green. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; children, Gail and her husband, Rob Dehann, Dana Ott, David Ott and Jennifer Ott; siblings, Connie Abell of Island City, Deanna Boschee of Oceanside, Calif., and Mel and his wife, Diantha Ott of Spokane; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laura (Smith) Ott Haefer and Fritz Ott. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1834, Merrifield, VA 22116-8034.
