1 p.m. Saturday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. A full obituary will be available later. Billy Warren Nelson, 73, of Union, died Dec. 12 at a local care center. At his request, there will be no public services. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements. Billy was born Jan. 10, 1938, the son of Clare and Sarah (Packard) Nelson in Union. He attended Union schools and worked in the logging business as a faller. He worked in various places in Oregon and in Alaska for six years before returning to Oregon. On June 7, 1958, he married Bonieta Jarvis in Sutherland. While in Alaska, he was a member of the American Legion. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gold mining. He also loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Bonieta; children, Dorothy Thomas, Billy Nelson, Raymond Nelson, Anita Appleton, Daniel Nelson and Kevin Nelson; brothers, Roy Nelson, Guy Nelson and David Nelson; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorthea McGuire. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Heart Association or the Kidney Association in care of Daniels-Knopp, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande.
