Ida Schnore

La Grande


Ida Schnore, 99, of La Grande and formerly of Elgin, died Dec. 18 at Grande Ronde Hospital. She had requested that no public services be held. An obituary will be available later. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of the arrangements.

 



John L. Mack

La Grande

1925-2011


John Leon Mack, 86, of La Grande, died Dec. 19 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A celebration of life is being planned. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

John was born May 3, 1925, in Baker City, the son of Edgar Wallace Mack and Ada Francis Baker Mack. He grew up in Huntington and Baker City. He attended St. Francis Academy and graduated from Baker High School before enrolling at Eastern Oregon College.

John served his country in the U.S. Maritime during World War II. On Sept. 14, 1948, he married Catherine Johanna Rand. They were married for 63 years at the time of his death.

John and Catherine owned and operated a real estate office in conjunction with an insurance firm in Baker City, until they moved to La Grande in 1970 to appraise, sell and manage real estate. They retired in 1979 to manage their own rentals.

John and Catherine enjoyed winter travel across the southern United States in their R.V. He also enjoyed cards, bowling and fishing. John belonged to the Baker Diocese Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. He was past president of the Board of Realtors in Baker and Union counties and past president of the Northeast Oregon Rental Owners Association. He also served on the La Grande Planning Commission.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine; his children and their spouses, Ellen Kelley of Two Harbors, Calif., Ronald and Judith Mack of La Grande, Mary and Virgil Reeder of La Grande and Lisa and Paul Couture of Eagle Point; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Donna Greene.

 


 

Jackson Potter

Formerly of La Grande

1936-2011


Jackson Potter, 74, of Baker City, died Dec. 18 in Baker City. A celebration of Jackson’s life will begin at 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at his daughter Kelly’s home in Portland.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1936, in Coweta, Okla., to Geneva and Joy Potter. His family came to the Northwest in the 1940s, and he graduated in 1956 from Forks High School in Forks, Wash. He then continued his education at Seattle Pacific College where he met and married Kathleen Flatland in 1960. They moved to Portland and raised four children there. In 1983, he moved to Baker City. He married Helen Winters in 1985. They lived in La Grande.

Growing up, he spent most of his time in the woods. He loved hunting and fishing and worked as a logger in his early years. He spent most of his adult life working in sales and always had a story or joke for everyone he met. He was most comfortable in the outdoors and had a passion for gold-mining and gardening. His family says he was an accomplished chess player.

He moved back to Baker City in 2006 where he was a regular patron of the library and loved to share his green thumb at the senior center garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joy Potter and Geneva Rice.

Jackson is survived by his four children, Kelly Potter Kemper and husband, Dave, of Damascus; Tim Potter and wife, Heidi, of Milwaukie; Patrick Potter and wife, Laura, of Sandy; and Sheryl Potter Langston and husband, Jimmy Langston, of Tigard; 10 grandchildren; and one cousin.

Jay A. Trumbo

La Grande

1934-2011


Jay A. Trumbo, 77, of La Grande, died Dec. 19 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A private family burial service will be held at Grandview Cemetery. A celebration of life barbecue will be held on his birthday. Time and place will be announced later by Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center.

Jay was born June 4, 1934, in Upland, Calif., to Byron and Mildred (McCracken) Trumbo.

The family lived in several places in California before Jay graduated from high school in Chino, Calif., with the Class of 1952. He then entered the U.S. Army where he served until March 1, 1961, when he was honorably discharged as a Specialist 4.

He moved to La Grande in October of 1972. On Dec. 26, 1972, he married Kay Wise Eager in Hillsboro.

Jay was known through his concrete contracting business, Trumbo-Cina Construction. Most people referred to the business as Jay Trumbo Concrete.

He was active in the Search & Rescue and Starkey Jeep Racing. He did some work for the Blue Mountain Humane Association as well. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, building motorcycles and rebuilding and racing Jeeps. He loved his dogs. He was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He loved and appreciated his many friends and the people he worked with over the years. He enjoyed spending time with his friend, Buck Jores of Eugene.

Survivors include his wife, Kay, of La Grande; children, Kathy Baggett of Tucson, Ariz., Donna Trumbo of Phoenix, Ariz., Darren Trumbo of Colorado, Christie and Adam Morris of Portland, Laura and George Tishmack of Union and James and Susan Trumbo of La Grande; a brother and sister-in-law, Loran and Betty Trumbo of Portland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Duane and Rene’ Wise of La Grande; father-in-law, Bruce Wise of Yakima, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Jennifer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Association in care of Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St., La Grande, OR 97850.
