Obituaries for the day of December 3, 2009 Earl Berry Formerly of Wallowa 1939-2009 Earl Berry, 69, formerly of Wallowa, died Nov. 25 at his home in Reliance, Wyo. His ashes will be scattered at a later date at New Fork Lake in Wyoming. Earl was born Nov. 28, 1939, to Charles and Ione (Elledge) Berry in Wallowa. Earl graduated from Wallowa High School in 1958. He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1961 through 1964. After he returned home he went to Blue Mountain Community College and received his degree in engineering. He moved to Camas, Wash., to work in the paper mill there as a millwright. Earl moved to Reliance to work in the coal-fired power plant at Green River, Wyo., as a millwright. He enjoyed friends, fishing, hunting, travel and the desert. His two favorite places in Wyoming were Flaming Gorge Reservoir and New Fork Lake. Wallowa County was one of his favorite places to come home to. He always had fun times with his relatives and friends. He married Nedra March 11, 1989. Survivors include his wife, Nedra; three stepchildren, Michelle, Shawna and Joe; siblings, Duane Berry and Charlene Hauser, both of Imbler; four nephews; three nieces; three step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter.; many cousins; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ione Berry; and his brother, Cleve Berry.
Patricia L. Mickel La Grande 1915-2009 Patricia Lee Mickel, 93, of La Grande, died Oct. 5 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A rosary was held Wednesday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. A funeral Mass took place this morning at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery. Patricia was born Nov. 22, 1915, to Daniel and Josie (Weaver) Sievers in Jonesboro, Ark. She worked as a clerk in the tax collector’s office in San Bernardino, Calif. She was a member of the San Bernardino County Employee Association and the San Bernardino County Employee Retirement Association. She moved to La Grande from Rialto, Calif., in November 1986. She enjoyed sewing, reading, walking and composing lyrics to music. Survivors include her sons, Nicholas Mickel and Patrick Mickel, both of California; daughter, Michele Mickel of California; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Sievers; and sisters, Verna Greer, Mildred Osborne and Floreine McMaster.
