Wilma D. Weeks La Grande
Dorothy Ambrose La Grande 1923-2010
Dorothy was born Dec. 28, 1923, to Sterling and Hazel (Bowman) Green in Baker. She was raised in Haines and graduated from Haines High School. She received a degree from Eastern Oregon University. In 1949 she married George Ambrose. In the mid-1950s she went to work as a legal secretary for Carl Helm and remained with him until he retired in the early 1990s. She was a member of the Soroptimist for Women and the National Association of Legal Secretaries. Survivors include her son, Terry Ambrose of La Grande; and other relatives. Her husband preceded her in death in 1971. The family requests that no flowers or donation be made. Ron F. Bayless Joseph 1948-2010
A memorial service was held Tuesday at Seventh-day Adventist Church in Enterprise. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ron was born Nov. 1, 1948, to Bennie Freeman and Edyth Dennis Bayless at Arcadia, Calif. He grew up and lived in Burbank and attended high school there. He joined the Army and served in Germany and Vietnam. In 1982, he met Bonnie Marler at work and they married Aug. 9, 1987, in San Pedro, Calif., on the Bucaneer Queen in a pirate-style wedding The couple moved to Frazier Park, Calif., until 2004 when they finally retired to Joseph. Ron had been scouted for pro baseball. He worked for a refrigeration and heating company, was a Teamster for Universal Studios working as a dispatcher at tours, then became a captain on movie productions. He was also a heavy equipment operator until 2002. Ron loved his animals — Harry, Pee Wee, Amber Rose and the latest, Dylan Thorn and Heather Rose. He was a member of a duck club in Delano, Calif., known as Machinist and Farmers Duck Club. Ron was baptized Jan. 23, 2010, at St. Mary’s Medical Center after suffering from cancer. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Joseph; brother, Bernie, and his wife, Sue; and one niece and two nephews. Shawn E. Cochrane Formerly of La Grande 1967-2010
La Grande, died Jan. 26 at his home. A casual service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Eastern Oregon Livestock Clubhouse, 760 E. Delta, Union. A potluck reception will follow the services. Call Kevin Kohr for food arrangements at 541-910-1458. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements. Shawn was born June 15, 1967, in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School in 1985. After graduating he worked in the construction field until present. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters, fishing, hunting and watching the Denver Broncos. He is survived by his daughters, Jordyn of West Linn and Graycie of Oregon City; brother, Shannon and his wife, Karen Cochrane, of Dundee; grandfather, Douglas Holmes of Cove; grandmother, Helen Cochrane of La Grande; father, Bob Cochrane of Florida; two aunts and two uncles; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.
Robert M. Herman La Grande 1917-2010 Robert M. Herman, 92, of La Grande, died Feb. 2 at his home surrounded by family. Recitation of the holy rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian burial. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements. Bob was born March 2, 1917, to Anthony “Big Tony” and Harriet “Tootsie” (Steinhaus) Herman in Chicago. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific in the Navy construction battalion, the Sea-Bees. On Feb. 7, 1948, he married the love of his life, Rosemary “Ro“ Palmer. They settled in Winfield, Ill., to raise their six children. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Elmhurst Chicago Stone Co. for nearly 30 years. Bob’s passion while his children were young, was spending time at their cabin in the “UP” or Upper Peninsula in Michigan, enjoying the company of family, friends and snowbirds. He moved to La Grande in 1987, with Ro and daughter Mary, where he enjoyed splitting firewood, pitching horseshoes, baking pies, wood carving, saying the rosary and reminiscing with his old friend, Carlo Rossi. Robert is survived by his children, Glen and his wife, Vicki, of La Grande, Gail Henry of Durango, Colo., Tony and his wife, Cheryl, of St. Charles, Ill., Tom of Naperville, Ill., and Mary of La Grande; a nephew; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ro; and son, Guy. Contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the charitable fund at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
Bertha M. Kubesh Formerly of La Grande 1942-2010
Bertha was born Aug. 16, 1942. She worked for the La Grande School District as a cook at La Grande Middle School and La Grande High School, and also as a custodian at the high school. Bertha enjoyed dancing with the Star Promenaders Square Dance Club and Round-up City Cloggers of Pendleton. Survivors include her husband, David Kubesh; daughters, Rhonda “Ronnie” Kubesh and Trina Whitley; and a son-in-law, Chad Whitley.
Adarene Ogden La Grande 1934-2010
Addie was born Adarene LaVonne Conrad Aug. 6, 1934, to Tom and Treshia (Emigh) Conrad in La Grande. She was raised in La Grande and Cove and graduated from Cove High School in 1952. She attended business college in Spokane where she met Dever E. Ogden. They married in Cove in 1963 and had two sons, Sherman and Eugene. Dever was in the Air Force and Navy, which took them to Moses Lake, Wash., Oakland, Calif., Millington, Tenn,, and finally La Grande where she was a housekeeper at local motels. She is survived by her mother, Treshia Conrad (103 years old) of Hermiston; sons, Sherman Ogden of La Grande and Eugene Ogden of Richland, Wash.; sisters, Patricia Templeton of Hermiston and Valgene Standley of La Grande; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dever E. Ogden in 2004; and father, Tom Conrad, in 1995. Memorial contributions may be made to Loveland Funeral Chapel to assist the family with expenses, 1508 Fourth St., La Grande 97850.
