Rogers, Neider, Weeks, Winters Kenneth Rogers, 75, of La Grande, died Feb, 5 at his home. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements. Kenneth Gordon Neider, 90, of Hermiston and formerly of La Grande, died Feb. 1 at his home. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements. To sign the condolence book, visit www.burnsmortuaryhermiston.com. Kenneth was born July 7, 1919, to Robert George and Delpha Neider in Halfway. He served in World War II and was a very proud veteran Army sergeant. He married Wilma Lorriane Kirby in 1945 in Boise. Survivors include sons, Kenneth J. and Robert G. Neider, both of Hermiston; daughter, Sharlet M. Neider of Hermiston; one niece; one cousin; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma L. Neider; sister, Rozelle Downing; mother, Delpha Wright; father, George Neider; and brother, Bob Neider. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Wilma Banaka Weeks, 89, of La Grande, died Feb. 4 at her home. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Fellowship, 507 Palmer St., La Grande. A viewing will run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at Loveland Funeral Chapel. Wilma was born Sept. 9, 1920, to Lou and Vera (Kimble) Hiatt in Chase, Neb. She married Kenneth Banaka of Wray, Colo., Dec. 14, 1941. Three children — Larry, Pat and Ilene — were born to this union. The family moved to Hoquiam, Wash., in the fall of 1948. She worked at the Grays Harbor Veneer Plant for many years. In 1964 they moved to La Grande. Wilma was employed at the truck stop, Long Branch and Corner Lunch. She was widowed in 1969. On Jan. 13, 1979, she married Richard Weeks of Union. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary No. 4060 and of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 43, where she held offices of president, treasurer and historian. She had the honor to be co-grand marshal of the 2004 Veterans Day Parade. She was a member and treasurer of the Eastern Oregon Singles for many years, and a 35-year member of The Eagles. She said some of her most pleasurable times were spent with her Thursday Girls. Surviving Wilma are her children, Larry Banaka, Pat (Jack) Baker and Ilene Sloan; stepson, Russell (Louise) Weeks; sister, Ida Ryan; five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Wilma was preceded in death by her husbands Kenneth Banaka (1969) and Richard Weeks (1986); a grandson, Kenneth Dee Banaka; parents in Imperial, Neb.; sisters, Velma McGaughey of Wray, Lela Edwards of Redding, Calif., Leta White of Caldwell, Idaho; brothers, Richard of Benkleman, Neb., Claire (Babe) of Hillsboro, Leonard of Wray; three nieces, three nephews; and other relatives. Gary Merle Winters, 70, formerly of La Grande and Wallowa County, died Jan. 18 in Eugene after a battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. At his request, there was no service. He was born Jan. 23, 1939, to Joy (Fine) Bartmess and Virgil Winters in Joseph. Joy later married Arthur Bartmess of Lostine. He graduated from Lostine High School in 1957, attended Eastern Oregon College in La Grande and received a degree in business from Lane Community College. He met Betty Trump of Wallowa at a dance and married her July 10, 1961, in Lewiston, Idaho. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 and was stationed at Fort Steward, Ga. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on Clear Lake cutoff road, Green Peter Dam and Cougar Reservoir. He worked for the Eugene Water and Electric Board in 1964 and retired as construction supervisor in 1994 after 30 years of service. His hobbies included hunting, camping, reading, fishing, bowling, woodworking, scouting, attending grandkids’ activities and meeting for coffee with the McDonald’s group. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Trump) Winters of Eugene; daughters, Laurie Byerly and her husband, Shane, of Dayton and Andrea Hartman and her husband, Ron, of Eugene; son, Derek Winter and his wife, Laura Chen, of Eugene; stepfather, Arthur Bartmess of Joseph; sisters, Verna Rhodes of Enterprise, Corliss Boner and her husband, Dale, of Enterprise, and Linda LaRue and her husband, Del, of Ione; brother, Gorden Winters of Pendleton; stepsister, Diane Snodderly and her husband, David, of Lodi, Calif.; stepbrother, Dale Bartmess and his wife, Shirley, of Hurricane, Utah; sister-in-law Zora Roley and her husband, Edward, of South Beach; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepbrother, Don Bartmess; and brother-in-law, Archie “Bud” Rhodes. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eugene Public Library, 100 W. 10th Ave., Eugene.
