Cleo M. Austin Formerly of Elgin 1925-2011
She was born July 25, 1925, at Cricket Flat to Joseph Belle and Ella Mary (Hobbs) Scott. Cleo married Robert Andrew Austin in 1948 in Pendleton. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2005. Cleo worked as a cook with the Washington State Department of Corrections. She spent time living in Elgin, Horse Heaven, Wash., Port Townsend, Wash.; and Sequim. She belonged to Faith Baptist Church in Sequim. In Port Townsend, she was a member of the Quimper Grange and the bonsai and rock clubs. Cleo enjoyed ceramics, oil painting, bonsai, piano and jewelry-making. Survivors include son, Drew Austin of Sequim; daughters, Cindy Nordberg (Mike) of Port Hadlock, Wash., and Elaine Gray (John) of Fullerton, Calif.; brothers, Lawrence Scott and Albert Scott (Maxine) of Wallowa and Johnny Scott of Aloha; sisters, Verna Miller of Metolius, Ione Hinze of Elgin, Alberta Eckstien (Loren) of Palmer Junction, Beverly Jacobs (Eldon) of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Florence Anna Shaffer (Larry) of Elgin, twin of Lawrence Scott; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Richard Scott, Jack Scott and Pete Scott.
Ryan Morrow Baker City 1981-2012
He was born Nov. 17, 1981, to Mike Morrow and Valerie (Byrne) Morrow in Baker City. He graduated from Powder Valley High School. Ryan worked as a heavy equipment operator, commercial truck driver, welder and fabricator and wildland firefighter. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, fishing, golf, basketball, RC helicopters, music and watching Ducks games. He was a member of Harvest Church. Those who knew Ryan say his daughter, Zoe, was the love of his life. They say he never knew a stranger and was quick to help anyone in need. Ryan loved the outdoors and was known for his good humor. Survivors include his daughter, Zoe, of Baker City; mother, Valerie of La Grande; father, Mike of Haines; sisters, Erica of Cle Elum, Wash., and Tara of Pasco, Wash.; and grandparents, Sandra of Baker City, Ralph of Baker City and Thelma of Haines. He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Curtis. Memorial contributions may be made to Sterling Savings Bank in care of Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
La Grande 1944-2011
Lillian was born July 4, 1944, in Portland to Leo and Geneva (Gillis) LeVasseur. She attended Franklin High School in Portland. She also lived in Vancouver, Wash., and San Antonio, Texas, before moving to La Grande. On Sept. 16, 2007, she married Martin Sasser. Lillian was employed by Walmart and several security companies. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband; children, Ronnie and April Fisher of Carson City, Nev., Jay and Julita Hutson of Vancouver, Wash., Stephanie and David McDermott of Palmer, Alaska, and Jennifer Sasser of La Grande; sisters, Bonnie McConnell of Portland, Anita Thornhill of La Grande, Rose and Ernie Boyd of Elgin and Audrey Clinton of Vancouver, Wash.; and several grandchildren.
