Marian ‘Mimi’ Goldberg La Grande 1939-2012
Marian was born March 11, 1939, in Helena, Mont., to Kenneth and Rachel (Munson) James. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Alaska Southeast in 1993 and a master’s in social work from Walla Walla College in 1995. She became a licensed clinical social worker and trained others for the University of Alaska in Anchorage. In 2002, she joined Julie Farnam at Kindred Support Services LLC in La Grande and counseled many children and families in Baker and Union counties. Marian loved yoga, tai chi, working out, getting massages, picnics and hiking with their Australian shepherd, Choc. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, drinking lattes, watching movies, traveling, skiing and reading mysteries, especially the Mrs. Pollifax series. Marian is survived by her husband, C.J. Bryan; brothers, Rick (Nancy) James of La Grande and Ralph (Linda) James of Eugene; children, Laurie Goldberg-Foreman (Joe) of Loveland, Colo., Cynthia Goldberg of Anchorage, and Britton Goldberg (Alice) of Aurora, Colo.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, Rachel and Kenneth James; brother, Donald James; and first husband, Ronald Goldberg. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Cancer Research Center or any children’s charity in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St., La Grande, OR 97850.
La Grande 1924-2012
Loretta was born March 31, 1924, the daughter of Arthur Lee Gorham and Vella B. Youncs Gorham in North Powder. She attended Wolf Creek Grade School and graduated from Powder Valley High School with the Class of 1942. On Sept. 12, 1942, she married Max Jennings in La Grande. They moved to La Grande from North Powder in 1954. He preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1996. She was a member of Valley Fellowship where she enjoyed their many activities. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and yard and garden work. Survivors include her daughter, Sandy Lee Babic of La Grande; son, Vernon Jennings of Island City; daughter, Marceen Rees of Orofino, Idaho; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and other relatives. She was also preceded in death by a son, Warren Jennings, in 2008; mother and father, Art and Vella; and brothers, Orvan Gorham and Roland Gorham. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Fellowship Youth Group or any charity in care of Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande.
