Wise

Sherry Kay Wise, 64, of La Grande, died July 7 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Walla Walla. A graveside service will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the Elgin Cemetery. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements.

Sherry was born Jan. 10, 1944, to Andrew Jackson and Minnie Viola (Freeze) Campo in Bennington, Okla. The family moved to California when Sherry was a baby. On Oct. 25, 1969, Sherry married Marion Wise Jr. They moved to Oregon in 1974.

Sherry drove a school bus for the Imbler School District for three years before working with her husband in the trucking business. They later divorced.

Over the years Sherry attended the Church of Christ and in recent years went with her daughter to the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. She was a member of a CB club and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. The Fourth of July was her favorite holiday, and she loved to spoil her grandchildren.  Those who knew her say Sherry’s family was her life and she was always a strong-minded person who was not afraid to speak her mind.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Van Dine of Elgin, Rick Wise of California and J.R. Wise of Coos Bay; sister, Christine Deal of Boise; brothers, Neil Campo of La Grande and Corgian Campo of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Wise; sisters, Jeanette Pease, Charleen Board and Laquietta Like; and brothers, Darrell Campo and A.J. Campo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sherry Wise Memorial Fund in care of Daniels-Knopp, 1502 Seventh St., La Grande 97850.
