Obituaries for the day of July 17, 2008

Phipps, Robertson, Satterlee, Shankel

 

 

 


Lynn J.C. Phipps, 68, of Hermiston, died July 15 at his cabin. Phipps had a cabin in Camp Elkanah for 40 years. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Robert Leslie Robertson, 82, of La Grande, died July 16 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St.,

La Grande. Burial will follow at the Island City Cemetery. Viewing hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Daniels-Knopp.


A memorial service for Richard “Dick” Walter Satterlee, 84, of La Grande, will begin at 11 a.m. Aug. 2 at the Island City City Hall. A luncheon will follow.

Mr. Satterlee died Nov. 27, 2007, in Yuma, Ariz.


Annabel Redding Shankel, 92, of Union, died July 14 at a local care center. A memorial service begins at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in La Grande. A committal service will be held in California at a later date.

Annabel was born April 6, 1916, the first of five children to William L. and Marion (Schaeffle) Redding in Murphys, Calif. She graduated from Bret Harte High School in Altiville, Calif., and San Joaquin General Nursing School as a registered nurse. She worked as a county school nurse for 30 years in both Claveras and Amador counties.

On Feb. 16, 1938, she married Arthur Mark Shankel in Reno, Nev. Upon retirement they moved to Union to be close to their children and grandchildren. Her family was her main focus. Arthur preceded her in death.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Pat Shankel of Union and Dr. Bill and Mary Ann Shankel of Kauai, Hawaii; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Tuechert and Patricia Danielson, both of California; brother, Marion Redding of California; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Nicole Shankel; and a sister, Rosemary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society in care of Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh Street, La Grande 97850.
