Gerald was 83 and lived in Elgin. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
La Grande
Florence was 88 and lived in La Grande. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Formerly of Elgin 1918-2011
She was born Nov. 19, 1918, to Ira and Henrietta Smith in Elgin. She graduated from high school there. She married Robert Blanchard in 1936, and during WWII, they moved to Portland, where she lived until her death. She loved to play golf and belonged to bridge clubs all her life. She was also an active member of P.E.O. She was a member of Savage Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a long-time volunteer at its library. Survivors include her son, Dr. Donald Blanchard, and daughter-in-law, Gladys; a brother, George Smith and his wife, Sharon; sister-in-law, Ruth Blanchard; brother-in-law, Walter Berger; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; sisters, Beulah and Florence; and brothers, Tom and Harry. Memorial contributions may be made to Casey Eye Institute Oregon Health & Science University, 3375 SW Terwilliger Blvd., Portland 97239-4197.
Reta Mae Cupper La Grande 1920-2011
Reta was born Jan. 12, 1920, in Lexington to James Murdock Stubblefield and Mattie Martha Williams Stubblefield. She was raised in Monument and graduated from high school there. On Jan. 13, 1938, she married Henry Adams Cupper and they lived on Cupper Canyon Ranch in Kimberly. They sold the ranch in 1964 and moved to La Grande where they purchased the Moon Motel. In 1976, they sold the motel and retired to their home on North Birch Street. Reta was active in the Grange, home Extension and church. She served on an election board. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, stitchery, gardening, flowers, canning and playing piano in the family dance band. She received many prize ribbons at the county fair. Surviving are her children, Sharon Batty of Vernonia, Hank Cupper of Portland and Jerry Cupper and his wife, Lana, of Kona, Hawaii; her sister-in-law, Cora Stubblefield; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Henry; her parents; one brother, George Stubblefield; her brother-in-law, Wayne Leathers; sister-in-law, Ethel Leathers; and her cousin, Norris Stubblefield.
Starkey
Theodore was the former post commander of American Legion Post 43 and was the current American Legion District 6 commander. Survivors include his children, Kelli Hooey and Kevin Hooey; brothers, Steve Hooey and his wife, Myrna, and Norm Hooey and his wife, Renee; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and his girlfriend, Audrey Teixeira. In lieu of flowers, Theodore would want memorial contributions to go to the local American Legion.
