Robert Charles “Chuck” Morris, 90, of La Grande, died July 28 at his property at Wallowa Lake. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elks Club in La Grande. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Chuck was born March 20, 1918, to Edward Jenkins and Fanny Ann (Borton) Morris in Haines. He graduated from high school in Haines and became an engineer for the railroad. He enlisted in the Navy in August 1943, and married Mary Jean Metcalf on Nov. 9, 1945, in Baker City.

The couple moved to Seattle while he was in the service. He was honorably discharged in 1946, and he and Mary returned to Baker City. They moved to La Grande in 1950. In 1965, they purchased property at Wallowa Lake and started to build their dream cabin.

Mary Jean and Chuck were proud to say that they did all the construction, except the electrical work. Once completed, they spent all their free time there enjoying a job well done with family and friends.

Chuck was a 50-year member of the La Grande Elks Lodge, and a member of the Baker City Elks.

He is survived by his daughter, Judy and her husband, Jim Rygg, of La Grande; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jane in 2004; and siblings, Clara, Frederick and Raymond.
