LOCAL FUNERALS AND VISITATIONS July 10 — Kevin Osterloh, celebration of life, 2 p.m., La Grande High School; dessert reception and fellowship, Faith CenterJuly 11 — Everett Davis, funeral services, 11 a.m., Enterprise Christian Church Marie Jeannette Sims Baum, 89, of La Grande, died July 7 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the LDS Stake Center on Gekeler Lane. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Everett Edward Davis, 96, of The Dalles and formerly of Wallowa County, died July 4 at a local care center. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Enterprise Christian Church in Enterprise. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Everett was born July 21, 1912, the second of seven children to James T. and Rosabelle (Marks) Davis in Powhatan, Ark. He grew up in Joseph where he attended country schools in Wallowa County. Everett married Beulah Wilson Atkinson July 22, 1949. He resided in Wallowa County (Joseph, Wallowa and Enterprise) until moving to a care center in The Dalles in 2003 to be near his daughter. He was a member of Enterprise Christian Church and Liberty Grange in Joseph. He was a retired farmer and after his retirement he spent the winters in Yuma, Ariz., and enjoyed gardening and jigsaw puzzles. He is survived by his step-daughter, Toni Marks and her husband, Jim, of The Dalles; daughter-in-law, SuMi Atkinson of Puyallup, Wash.; several grandchildren; brother, Melvin Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah in 2006; step-son, David Atkinson in 2008; two brothers, Frank Davis and Delbert Davis; and three sisters, Alta Hodge, Beulah Wilson and Lola Gibbs. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of The Gorge, 751 Myrtle St, The Dalles 97058. Robert “Bob” Gerry, 80, of Baker City and formerly of La Grande and Redwood City, Calif., died April 15. A remembrance and memorial service for family and friends will take place at noon Saturday at the Durkee cemetery followed by a gathering of family and friends at the community center in Durkee. He was born in May 1928 to Clifford R. Gerry and Mary Evelyn (Sheehan) Gerry in Baker. He was the seventh child of this union. Robert attended schools in Durkee, Haines, Joseph and Baker. He was recruited to play basketball for Baker High School and after graduation, he attended Eastern Oregon State College where he also played basketball. Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 through 1951, a Korean War veteran. After graduation from San Jose College, earning an AB and MA in elementary education and administration, Robert taught elementary grades and held the position of vice principal in Redwood City, Calif., for 20 years. Those who knew Bob say he will be remembered for his keen sense of his Irish ancestry, his sense of humor, his beloved San Francisco 49ers and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. They say he never met a stranger and was loved by family and friends. Robert is survived by a daughter, Christina and her husband, James Lucci, of Irvine, Calif.; son, Robert and his wife, Beth, of Indiana; four grandsons; sister, Patricia Gerry Coleman of San Jose, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings, Winnie and Evelyn Stewart, Serene and Ida Hindman and Clifford, James and William Gerry. |
