Obituaries for the day of July 9, 2009 Bennie Kast Summerville Bennie Kast, age unavailable, of Summerville, died July 7 at her home. A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Summerville Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Summerville Cemetery. A full obituary will be available later. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements. George L. Meyer La Grande 1941-2009 George Lewis Meyer, 68, of La Grande, died July 6 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. A celebration of his life and a potluck will begin at noon Saturday at Fred Beeman Park at Fifth and McAlister in Island City. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements. George was born June 20, 1941, to Valentine and Sarah Meyer in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He was the eighth of nine children born to this union. He was a man who loved to hunt the mountains of La Grande for elk with his black powder rifle. He also loved to fish and tinker. His greatest joy was his family. His children say George could make anything with an engine run. He is survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Herb Meyer of Kennewick, Wash., Leona and Al Richardson of Richland, Wash., Juanita Fisher of Halfway, Ray and Delores Meyer of Kennewick, Wash., Joanne Holloway of Kennewick, Wash., and Richard and Donna Meyer of Kennewick, Wash.; children and their spouses, Clay and Kathleen Divine of Dietrich, Idaho, Sara and Mike Conner of Shoshone, Idaho, Mitch and Mary Meyer of Indio, Calif., Becky and Brad Scott of Shoshone, Idaho, Jay and Liz McCallister of La Grande and Billy and Amanda McCrae of La Grande; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his wife of 15 years, Irene Meyer, whom he loved dearly and who was by his side through his courageous fight. He was preceded in death by his father, Valentine Meyer; mother, Sarah Meyer; brother Leonard Meyer, and little sister, Barbara Jean Meyer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. |
