George was born June 20, 1941, to Valentine and Sarah Meyer in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He was the eighth of nine children born to this union.

He was a man who loved to hunt the mountains of La Grande for elk with his black powder rifle. He also loved to fish and tinker. His greatest joy was his family. His children say George could make anything with an engine run.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Herb Meyer of Kennewick, Wash., Leona and Al Richardson of Richland, Wash., Juanita Fisher of Halfway, Ray and Delores Meyer of Kennewick, Wash., Joanne Holloway of Kennewick, Wash., and Richard and Donna Meyer of Kennewick, Wash.; children and their spouses, Clay and Kathleen Divine of Dietrich, Idaho, Sara and Mike Conner of Shoshone, Idaho, Mitch and Mary Meyer of Indio, Calif., Becky and Brad Scott of Shoshone, Idaho, Jay and Liz McCallister of La Grande and Billy and Amanda McCrae of

La Grande; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his wife of 15 years, Irene Meyer, whom he loved dearly and who was by his side through his courageous fight. He was preceded in death by his father, Valentine Meyer; mother, Sarah Meyer; brother Leonard Meyer, and little sister, Barbara Jean Meyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
