Garvin, Kloer, Osterloh, Leitch

George Robert Garvin

North Powder

1951-2009

George Robert Garvin, 58, of North Powder and formerly of Portland, died June 22 at Grande Ronde Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Family Church, Southeast 39th and Knapp Street in Portland. Arrangements are with Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Known as Rob or Robbie, he was born May 28, 1951, in Portland to Robert and Mary (Tomac) Garvin. He was raised and educated in Portland, and moved to North Powder three years ago from Brightwood.

He had a great love for snow skiing and music.

Survivors include his parents, Bob and Mary of Salem, and sister, Karen Hay of Seattle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a church or favorite charity


Velma Jean Kloer

La Grande

1930-2009

Velma Jean Kloer, 78, of La Grande, died at her residence June 22.

A dedication of the grave will be held Friday at Grandview Cemetery, La Grande. Loveland Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Velma was born July 4, 1930, to Edward and Eva Robinson in Newton, Iowa. She moved to

La Grande 13 years ago from Beaver Creek. She was a member of the Island City Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She married Albert Kloer on July 4, 1949, and they remained married for 60 years. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing and singing to her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and one sister.

Velma is survived by her husband Albert of La Grande; children Joe (Cheryl) Kloer of Tennessee; John (Laura) Kloer of Beaver Creek; Dan (Leslie) Kloer of La Grande; Tracy (Bill) Stoughton of Gladstone; brother Jerry Robinson of Portland; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Kevin Osterloh

La Grande

1987-2009

Kevin Andrew Osterloh, 21, of La Grande, died at his residence June 12. There will be a celebration of life at 2 p.m. July 10 at La Grande High School. Arrangements are with Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Kevin was born Oct. 23, 1987, in La Grande to Russ and Mary (Leonard) Osterloh. He attended local schools and graduated from La Grande High School in 2006.

After high school, he completed a two-year program at Anthem Ministry Training Institute in Bend and Medford. While at Anthem, he went on two mission trips to Campostella, Mexico.

A member of the Faith Center Church in Island City, Kevin played guitar as part of the worship team. He was a young man of great faith and conviction. In April 2007 he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and began radiation and chemo treatments.

Kevin enjoyed skateboarding, mountain hiking, snowboarding and playing soccer in the summer league and in his senior year. He worked at the local McDonald’s and at Starbucks in Bend. Going out for coffee on his scooter with friends and family was a highlight in his last months.

Survivors include his parents, Mary Creson of Antioch, Calif., and Russ Osterloh of La Grande; siblings, Suzanne of San Antonio, Texas, and Nate of La Grande; and many extended family members and his dog, Banjo.

 

Marlene Rae Leitch

La Grande

1939-2009

Marlene Rae Leitch, 69, of La Grande, died June 23 at the Grande Ronde Hospital.

A graveside service will be held July 3 at 2 p.m. at Island City Cemetery.

Viewing will be held Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande.

Marlene was born Aug. 27, 1939, the daughter of Clinton and Elsie (Gillham) McIntosh in Walla Walla. She graduated from La Grande High School and in 1958 she married James Fredrick Leitch. They lived in various places but mostly in Redding, Calif., until 1972 when they moved to La Grande. They owned and operated Racom on Cherry Street in La Grande.

The marriage ended in divorce in 1973, and Marlene continued to operate the business until selling it a few years ago.

Marlene was a Master Gardner and loved to garden and do crafts. She has been a member of the Elks and the AARP. Family was very important to her, and she was a very compassionate and giving person who lived her life fully and gave generously to charities.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Rene and Bruce Duane Wise of La Grande; son, Jeff Leitch of La Grande; two grandchildren, both of La Grande; three great-grandchildren, all of La Grande; brother, Glen McIntosh of La Grande; sisters, Marion Pittser of Arizona, Shirley Chrusoskie of La Grande, Marjorie Craddock of Anchorage, Alaska, and Brenda Baird of Cove; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marie Anderson and brother, Larry McIntosh.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Cancer Society in care of Daniels-Knopp.
