Obituaries for the day of May 14, 2009 Jared T. Henderson Formerly of Imbler 1989-2009 Jared Todd Henderson, 19, of Haines, Alaska, and formerly of Imbler, died May 6 while on an adventure in Alaska. A gathering of friends and family will run from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the Summerville Cemetery Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at the cemetery. The family has requested that the dress be casual. A meal for family and friends will be provided at the Marcus and Kari DeLint residence, 64154 Case Rd., in Cove, after the service. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Jared was born Sept. 19, 1989, to Andrew and Julie (Presley) Henderson in La Grande. He was educated, attended school and lived in Imbler until 2004 when he moved to Haines, Alaska. In school he was very active in sports, scouts, FFA, hiking, snow boarding and snow machining. He had a quiet disposition with a surprisingly quick wit and sense of humor. He was very active and always looking for adventure. The family says Jared loved being on the water and that on boating outings he usually drove their 18-foot skiff, rarely letting his father or younger brother take the helm. Sam McPheteres, his computer teacher in Haines, said Jared had an exceptional mind, and that when it came to technology he was “beyond gifted.” He redesigned the high school web page and often took minutes to complete challenging computer tasks that his teacher said, “I still don’t know how to do. He was pretty amazing.” Jared worked for AP&T with the lineman last summer in Haines. He is survived by his parents, Andrew and Julie of Haines, Alaska; brother, Austin Henderson of Haines, Alaska; grandparents, Lois Henderson, Sonny Presley and Carolyn Helman, all of La Grande; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Condolences may be sent to the Hendersons at P.O. Box 1344, Haines, Alaska 99827. Laura C. Hills Summerville 1947-2009 Laura Catherine Noland Hills, 61, of Summerville, died April 21. At her request, there will be no services. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory was in charge of the arrangements. Laura was born July 27, 1947, to Hallie N. and Daisy B. Noland in McMinnville. She was the youngest of eight children and was known to her family as “Mouse.” She is the mother of three: Cathi Moore of Milton-Freewater, Nat (Renee) Johnston of Shelton, Wash., and Darren Kelly of La Grande. She has eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Laura married Ron Hills Aug. 26, 2001. They shared their love at their home in Summerville. Laura was a business owner in Weston prior to moving to Summerville. She loved to play Bingo and was a member of the Elks. Family members will remember her for her love of family and get-togethers, her kindness and her generosity. She is survived by her husband; four step-children and their families; her children and their families; a brother, Hallie Noland of Alvadore; two sisters, Madeline Heinke of Washington and Carol Iverson of Elgin; and many nieces and nephews. |
