Theresa M. Aston

La Grande

 

Theresa M. Aston, 76, of La Grande, died May 14 at a local care center. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

 


Marvin Fager

La Grande

1922-2012

 

Marvin Fager, 90, of La Grande, died May 5 at a local care center. At his request, there will not be a public service. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center is in charge of the arrangements.

Marvin was born Feb. 25, 1922, the son of Harley and Maude (Smith) Fager in Moses Lake, Wash. The family moved to the Ladd Canyon Ranch in 1929. Marvin attended the Ladd Canyon Grade School through the eighth grade and then graduated from Union High School in 1939.

He married Viola D. Martin in October 1945. She preceded him in death in November 1964. In May 1994, he married Lorna Oliveria in La Grande.

Marvin was a lifetime rancher and orchardist on his ranch in Ladd Canyon. He enjoyed gardening and raising fish in the trout pond, and being with his family.

From 1965 to 1995 he built many fireplaces and masonry projects throughout Union County. He loved to play music with family. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church.

Survivor includes his wife, Lorna; children and their spouses, Janet and John Kelley, and Bob and Anita Fager of La Grande; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by brothers, Vern, Fred, Howard and Albert; and sisters, Florence Pearson, Letha Hasse and Doris Hasse.

Memorial contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church.

 


Orlander ‘Lee’ Jenkins

La Grande

1925-2012

 

Orlander “Lee” Jenkins, 87, of La Grande, died May 9 in Meridian, Idaho. A graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest East Cemetery. A gathering for family and friends will follow at
3 p.m. at the Jenkins home. Those who wish may sign the online guestbook or leave a message for the family at www.danielsknopp.com.

Lee was born May 5, 1925, the son of Lewis D. and Connie (Pullman) Jenkins in Manchester, N.H. He was raised mostly in the South, but made his home in many states during his lifetime. 

He served with the United States Army during World War II and was a decorated POW. After his honorable discharge from the military he lived along the Salmon River in Idaho for a year and then moved to Red’s Horse Ranch. He later moved to Cove and finally to La Grande. 

On Dec. 15, 1952, he  married Patricia Knight in  La Grande. They lived in what was the original courthouse in old town La Grande until they built their current home.

He worked for both the sawmill and the railroad before working for Union Pacific Railroad. He worked for them for 32 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, UPRR Jr. Old Timers, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and High Valley VFW. 

He enjoyed watching Westerns, playing cribbage and listening to big band music. Those who knew him say he was very crafty and clever. He was also a collector of many things over the years.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of La Grande; sons, Jim and Valerie Jenkins of Vancouver, Wash., Patrick Jenkins and David Hill of Portland and Brad and Lisa Jenkins of La Grande; brother, Irvin “Bradley” Jenkins of Florida; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Myrtle Jenkins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union VFW in care of Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande.
