James P. Sauer
James Paul Sauer, 80, of Summerville, died May 16 at his residence. Memorial services with military honors will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Summerville Baptist Church. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Jim was born April 14, 1932, at his home in Kalama, Wash., to James George and Lyndale Mabel (Duff) Sauer. He grew up in Kalama where he graduated from high school. He played football and basketball. After graduating, he met and married Judy JoAnn Bailey. They were married for 49 and a half years.
Jim was employed with the Cowlitz County Road Department for 30 years. He served in the Army Reserves for two years. He also served in the Army during the Korean War. He later receiving an honorable discharge.
Jim and Judy have been residents of Summerville for 14 years. Prior to that, they lived in Yacolt, Wash. Jim enjoyed gold mining and camping. He liked horses and was a life member of the N.R.A. He loved running heavy equipment.
He was a member of the Summerville Baptist Church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judy; his son, James Edwin Sauer and his wife, Tracy, of Summerville; two sisters, Carol and her husband, Nick Rickard, of Roseburg, and Shirley and her husband, Tom Brisco, of California; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lyndale; and his step-father, Marrion L. “Chet” Phelps.
