A funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church, 2705 Gekeler Lane in La Grande. Viewing will run from 4 to 6 today at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande. Chuck was born in Kenton, Ohio Aug. 10, 1930, one of 11 children. In his early years he was raised by his mother, Wanda Jones, but when the Depression came about he went to live in Spokane with his uncle, Walter Gerlach, who raised him from that point on. He graduated from high school in Spokane and then moved to Condon where he was a wheat rancher. In 1950 he married Marilyn McCarty. In 1965 they moved to La Grande where he continued to raise wheat until selling the ranch in 1970. He then owned and operated a trucking business and later worked for the railroad. He was an active member of the Trinity Baptist Church for many years. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the La Grande Country Club. During his lifetime he was a member of the Condon Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge and Eagles Lodge. When his health prevented him from his love of the golf game he always found other hobbies to keep him busy, including trapshooting, boating, skiing, hunting, fishing and more recently leather work and motorcycle riding. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Gerlach of La Grande; sons, Craig and Marcene Gerlach, Michael Gerlach and Terry and Sherrie Gerlach, all of La Grande; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven siblings; and other relatives. He went to Imbler school and graduated from there in 2003. He went to college at Central Oregon Community College and graduated in 2006 in forestry and natural resources. He went on to work for the Oregon Department of Forestry. Since he was a small child, Dustin’s life revolved around the outdoors, from fishing to hunting, trapping and riding his motorcycle. She moved to La Grande from Pendleton more than 20 years ago. She married Jerry Dale Ingerson in June 2008. Her hobbies and interests mostly included her love for animals, gardening and her passion — flowers. She loved viewing wildlife “critters,” as she called them. Rebecca retired from Eastern Oregon University. She is survived by her husband, Jerry of La Grande; and stepsons, Kevin and his wife, Tina Ingerson, Steven Ingerson, and Kyle and his wife, Kylee Ingerson, all of La Grande. She was preceded in death by her parents. Lila S. Bishop La Grande 1912-2009 A memorial service for Lila Stewart Bishop, 96, who died Jan. 20, will begin at noon Tuesday at the Methodist Church, 1612 Fourth St. in La Grande. Lila was born July 6, 1912, to S. Clyde and Janie Maxey Stewart in Hartford, Kan. After graduating in music from what was then Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia, she married J. Lynn Bishop in 1933, a fellow music major who died in 2000. Together they served in music ministries at Lowman United Methodist Church in Topeka, Kan., and later at La Grande United Methodist Church, where she was organist from 1949 or so until retirement in 1976. Music was a large part of Lila’s life as she taught piano and organ lessons and always worked to make the arts important in the La Grande community. But although Eastern Oregon University brought the Bishops to La Grande, it was the mountains and high lakes and sense of community that kept them here. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Hugo Hartig, of Waukesha, Wis., her two grandsons; siblings, Lorraine Cantwell of Riverside, Calif., and C.E. “Bud” Stewart of Manhattan, Kan.; and many other relatives. |
