Bartmess

Joy Marion Bartmess, 89, of Enterprise, died May 4 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. A private family graveside service is planned for Saturday at the Lostine Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Enterprise.

Joy was born Sept. 3, 1918, to William “Bill” and Minnie Young Fine in Prescott, Wash. She was raised and attended school in Chico, where her mother taught.

Joy married Virgil Winters in 1934. She later married Arthur Bartmess Aug. 18, 1951.

Joy loved fishing and knew every fishing hole on Joseph Creek. She spent many winters in Arizona, and many years driving the school bus. She loved all kids.

Joy had eight children; 24 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Verna Rhodes, Corliss Boner, Gary Winters, Dale Bartmess, Linda LaRue, Diana Snodderly and Gordon Winters.

She was preceded in death by sister, June Fine; son-in-law, Archie Rhodes; son, Don Bartmess; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alpine House in Joseph.
