Elizabeth ‘Betty’ L. Williams

La Grande

1928-2009

Elizabeth “Betty” L. Williams, 81, of La Grande, died May 1 at an assisted living center in Gresham.

A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Our Lady Of The Valley Catholic Church, 1101 Fourth St. in

La Grande. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in La Grande. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham is in charge of arrangements.

Betty was born Jan. 19, 1928, to Benjamin and Mary Evangeline (Carroll) Laubacher in Oxnard, Calif. She graduated from Santa Clara High School in Oxnard in 1946 and continued her education at Mercy College of Nursing in Los Angeles, graduating in 1948. She worked at St. Joe’s Hospital in Los Angeles and St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard as an operating room nurse for many years.

On July 14, 1963, she married Robert E. Williams in Las Vegas.

In 1974 they moved to La Grande, where she was a homemaker, raising their four children. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church.

In September 2008 Betty moved to Gresham due to her health to be near her children.

She is survived by her son, Chris Williams of Fairview; stepsons, Mike Williams of Camarillo, Calif., and Pat Williams of Carson City, Nev.; daughters, Johanna Maine of Hermiston, Kate Williams of Portland and Jean Taller of North Bend, Wash.; stepdaughters, Susan Nottingham of Camino Island, Wash., and Marianne Wood of Oakland, Calif.; brother, Bob Laubacher of Ontario; sisters, Ruth George of Taft, Calif., Pat Laubaucher of Cambria, Calif., Sally LaForge of Menlo Park, Calif., and Sister Carroll Laubacher of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on March 7, 1998; and brothers, Steve, Ben, Bob and Father Carroll Laubacher.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.
