Newcomb, Cork, Burgess, Hardy, Hocks

LOCAL FUNERALS AND VISITATIONS

Nov. 17 — Tony Newcomb, memorial service, 2 p.m., Loveland Funeral Chapel

Nov. 19 — Roy Cork, memorial service, 1 p.m., Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center

Nov. 22 — “Bea’’ Burgess, memorial service, 2 p.m.,


Florence Hardy, 71, of La Grande, died Friday at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande. A full obituary will follow later. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is handling arrangements.


Vernon L. Hocks Jr., 46, of Winnemucca, Nev., and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 12 in Winnemucca.

A service will be held in Nampa, Idaho, and will be announced later by the family.


Tony Lee Newcomb, 50, of La Grande, died Monday, November 10, 2008. Services will be held on Monday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St. in La Grande. A full obituary will follow later. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is handling arrangements.


Beatrice June “Bea” Burgess, 77, of La Grande, died Nov. 4 at a local care center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Church of Christ in La Grande. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements.

Bea was born Aug. 21, 1931, to Frank and Emma (Owalla) Hutchings in Merced, Calif. She graduated from high school in Hollister, Calif., and married Joel C. Burgess on June 31, 1956, in Stevenson, Wash. She and her husband owned and operated the Imbler Café until selling it at the end of 1982.

Bea was a member of the Church of Christ and the Rebekah Lodge in Summerville. She loved hunting, fishing and gardening, especially her flowers. She loved to bake and she was known to many as the “Pie Lady.”

Survivors include her husband, Joel Burgess of La Grande; children, Peggy Ann Loften of Klamath Falls and Bruce Burgess of Palouse, Wash.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bruce Burgess; and a daughter, Nancy Ruth.
