Dec. 26 — Joseph Wesley Jarvis, service, 1:30 p.m., Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center
Laura Reed, 57, of La Grande, died Nov. 18 in Hawaii. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Raymond Randolph Fairburn, 72, died Nov. 19 at his home in La Grande following an extended illness. There will be an open house gathering to share memories and celebrate Ray’s life starting at 3 p.m. Saturday at his home, 1323 Y Ave. in La Grande. Call Barb at 541-963-0408 or Dawn at 541-910-6431 with questions. Ray was born Dec. 21, 1936, in Clifton Forge, Va. He was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, where he met Barbara L. Durcan. They were married July 10, 1960. He owned an electrical contracting and well pump installation business. He was a commercial rabbit producer and a hobby farmer. He worked in property management from Washington to California, Colorado and Iowa. Most recently he owned and operated Jay Dee’s Market with Barb. Ray loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing and bird watching. Many happy hours were spent in his shop making bird houses, including ones for owls, and houses for bats and butterflies too. He appreciated variety in travel as well as in his employment. He visited every continental state and served in Africa and Greenland. Those who knew Ray say he never missed an opportunity to make a new friend in every situation. Ray is survived by his brother, Dennis Fairburn of Trenton, N.J.; wife, Barb Fairburn of La Grande; children, Lynn Fairburn and John Naegeli of Beaverton, Allen and Kathy Fairburn of Spokane, Dawn and Jeff Miller of La Grande; and Duane and Bonnie Fairburn of Deer Park, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Jack Dean Ferguson, 77, of Baker City, died Nov. 15, at St. Elizabeth Health Services. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Jack was born May 9, 1932, to Isla (Williams) Ferguson and William Ferguson at Berwyn, Neb. He attended high school in Enterprise where he was active in football and basketball. Later he served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Jack married Dixie Reynolds in 1956 in Enterprise. They had two sons, Scott and Wade. Jack was involved in car sales and later in real estate. He enjoyed rodeos, raising Appaloosa horses, trapshooting and cars. He especially enjoyed watching the Baker High School football practices and home games. He is survived by his wife, Dixie Ferguson of Baker City; sons, Scott Ferguson of Baker City and Wade Ferguson of Oregon City; two grandsons; one granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; brother, Bill Ferguson and his wife, Connie of Joseph; sister, Audrey Best and her husband, Keith, of Baker City; two nieces and seven nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents and one sister, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to Baker High School athletics in care of Gray’s West & Co. Arlie Fisk, 77, of La Grande, died Nov. 16 at a Boise hospital. A graveside service was held Nov. 19 at Island City Cemetery. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Arlie was born Oct. 25, 1932, to Wylie Elmer and Elsie (Suggs) Fisk in De Witt, Texas. He was an officer for the California Highway Patrol. He was married to Melva Fisk for more than 50 years. Arlie enjoyed family history, traveling, reading and was a deacon at Trinity Baptist Church in La Grande. He is survived by his three children, Bruce Fisk of Hillsboro, Crystal Purdy of Susanville, Calif., and Cindy Fisk-Bingham of Mololla; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva Fisk.
Myrle George Rambo, 78, of La Grande, died Nov. 18 at Providence Portland Medical Center. Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Hermiston Cemetery. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Myrle was born April 11, 1931, to Leonard and Edna Rambo in La Grande. He was raised in Cove and graduated from Cove High School in 1949. He went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad after graduation. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Navy with several friends and served four years during the Korean War. He completed 43 years of employment with Union Pacific Railroad working as a brakeman and as a conductor. On Aug. 28, 1957, he married Patricia Hunt of Hermiston. They had two children, Shannon and David Rambo. His job required him to live in several locations including Hermiston, La Grande and Ontario. Myrle enjoyed aviation, hunting, fishing and playing pool. He earned his pilot’s license and became a flight instructor while living in Ontario. He became involved in crop dusting and eventually owned and operated Rambo Flying Service until his health forced him to sell the business. He owned a Piper Pawnee and an Aztec aircraft. Myrle kept up with aviation news through television, magazines and newspapers. He is survived by his children, Shannon and David Rambo of La Grande; sisters, Nadine Hiett of El Paso, Texas, Darlene Payne, Judy Hoffman and Karen Schmidt of Hermiston; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia on Nov. 11, 2005; half-sister, Ruby Bray; and half-brothers, Ray, Fred and Howard Rambo.
