La Grande James Rhyne, 79, of La Grande, died Oct. 8 at a care center in Milton-Freewater. A full obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Brenda Lea Coe Wallowa 1944-2011 Brenda Lea Trump Coe, 67, of Wallowa, died Oct. 4 at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. A small private gathering of family and friends will be held later. Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater is in charge of the arrangements. Brenda Lea Coe was born on Aug. 29, 1944, to Jack Trump and Phyllis (Fox) Trump in La Grande. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1962. Brenda was a nature and American Indian enthusiast and enjoyed being in the outdoors. She was a former resident of Umatilla, Union and Elgin, as well as Riverside, Calif., and Mariposa, Calif. Brenda is survived by her mother, Phyllis Fox (Fleming) and step-father, Donald Fleming, of Sun City, Calif.; and two children, Cynthia Henderson, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Shellie Holden of The Dalles. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, including Cody Holden who was raised by Brenda since he was 2 years old. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Providence St. Mary’s Foundation, 401 W. Poplar, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
La Grande 1919-2011
She was born May 12, 1919, to John and Minnie Spear in Emmett, Idaho, where she was raised and educated. In her early years, she lived in various places in Idaho and Oregon before settling in La Grande in 1952. On May 11, 1940, she married George A. Walker in Weiser, Idaho. In 1958, the couple moved to the ranch at the base of Mount Emily where they lived until their deaths. He preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1999. Lula enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and baking and everything to do with homemaking. Her family says that despite the many obstacles she faced in her life, she remained a caring person. She is survived by two sons, two daughters, four grandchildren, a sister and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and several siblings.
