A celebration of life will begin at 2 p .m. Friday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. A full obituary will be available later. Darrell Marvin Muller, 78, of La Grande, died Oct. 7 in La Grande after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. According to Darrell’s wishes, he was cremated. A family graveside burial will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in La Grande. A memorial service will be held at the Pendleton Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Monday. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Darrell was born Sept. 12, 1931, to Lloyd and Rose (Berger) Muller in Rapid City, S.D. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 in the Counter Intelligence Corp and was honorably discharged from the Reserves in 1961. He received his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Oregon Normal School (now EOU) in 1953 and his master’s degree from the University of Colorado. He married Marilyn Rose Skeen June 14, 1953, in La Grande. They were married for 53 years. Darrell retired from the Pendleton School District in 1988 after 30 years of service. He began teaching in the fifth grade at Hawthorn School and retired as the director of Pupil Personnel Services. He worked with special education students, parents and teachers. Darrell served as a deacon and elder at the Pendleton Presbyterian Church and was a member of the United Methodist Church in La Grande at the time of his death. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Pendleton. He and Marilyn moved to La Grande in 1997 to work with their cattle and enjoyed spending time at their mountain cabin and acreage up Ladd Canyon Creek. Darrell is survived by sons and their spouses, Michael and Linda Muller of Echo, Steve and Cathy Muller of Pendleton and Richard Muller of La Grande; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Carolyn Ferguson of Virginia Beach, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grande Ronde Hospice. Leona Marie Steen, 89, of La Grande, died Sept. 18 at a local care center. At her request there will be no public services. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements. Leona was born Aug. 10, 1920, to Paul William and Laura (Quin) Barber in Aberdeen, S.D. She came to Oregon from South Dakota in 1971. She worked as an office clerk for Adult and Family Services until her retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose of Seaside. She enjoyed sewing and going to the senior center. Survivors include her son, Larry Howard Steen of Hillsboro; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Rush in May 2009, and sisters, LoReign Barber and Vera Strom. Memorial contributions may be made to the senior center or the arthritis association. Joseph. F. Teixeira, 84, of La Grande, died Oct. 7 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Joe was born Nov. 4, 1924, on the family dairy farm in Bolinas, Calif. He married Elsie Ventura in 1948 and had two children, Rich and Elsie Jr. They later divorced, and he married Audrey Newton in 1970. He worked for the Tiburon and Mill Valley School District until moving to La Grande in 1978. He then worked for the La Grande School District until he retired in 1987. He loved to camp, fish, hunt, play pool and darts. Also he did a lot of wood carving. He is survived by his wife, Audrey; son, Rick and his wife, Sharon Teixeira, of Fargo, N.D., Elsie and her husband, George Murphy, of California; stepchildren, Judy and her husband, Sheldon Goldstein, of Imbler, Cathy and her husband, Ray Crapo, of La Grande, Bud Newton and his companion, Sheri Rayburn, of La Grande and Ron and his wife, Kim Newton, of Sherwood; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene Teixeria and Christina Silveria. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
