Evenson

Clarence “Slim” Gerhart Evensen, 90, of La Grande, died Oct. 16 at his home.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2702 Adams Ave. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements.

Slim was born Nov. 12, 1917, to Fred and Maria (Omlid) Evensen in Esmond, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was ready to become a crew chief but got discharged instead.

While working as a mule skinner near Helix he met a car-hop in Pendleton. In 1944 Slim married Marian Bogan and they moved to La Grande where he began working as a mechanic for Lynch Motor Co. After 35 years of service he retired from Lynch in 1979.

Slim was a member of the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church and enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marian of La Grande; children, Christine Beal of San Mateo, Calif., Fred Evensen of Hillsboro, Gilbert Evensen of La Grande, Richard Evensen of Demascus, Heidi Lampu of Payette, Idaho, Linda Dunlap of North Plains and Maria Russell of La Grande; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church.
