Beth I. Jones Formerly of Union 1922-2011
A graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the Union Cemetery. A gathering for family and friends will follow at the Union Methodist Church fellowship hall. Viewing will run from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande. Beth was born on April 25, 1922, to Clarence W. and Hazel Irene (Dutcher) Dodds in Bushnell, Neb. The family moved to Union from Parma, Idaho, in 1938. She graduated from Union High School with the Class of 1940. She worked for McCaslin Lumber Co. (now Bronson Lumber) and was transferred to their Burley store. She then worked for the Farm and Home Administration as a loan officer until her retirement. She married William “Gay” Jones on Dec. 5, 1948. She was an active member of the Burley Soroptimist Club for 48 years and held many offices over the years. She was a member of the Professional Business Women in Burley and the Union County Museum. She enjoyed embroidery, sewing and ceramics. She and her husband enjoyed camping and traveling. They especially loved traveling to Eastern Oregon. Her husband preceded her in death on April 3, 1984. Survivors include her brother, Ben Dodds of Mount Vernon; sister, Berdine Sanders of The Dalles; and sister-in-law, Mary Dodds of Union. Also surviving her are three nieces, three nephews, three great-nieces, three great-nephews, three great-great-nieces, five great-great-nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and William Dodds; and a baby sister. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Union County Museum or the Union Methodist Church in care of Daniels-Knopp.
