Darrell M. Muller

La Grande

Darrell M. Muller, 78, of La Grande, died Oct. 7 at his home. A complete obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.



David L. Messer

Jamieson

1949-2009

David Leo Messer, 60, of Jamieson, died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident Sept. 29, one mile west of Jamieson.

Graveside services will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lostine Cemetery. A memorial service will follow on Monday at the Pendleton Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1401 SW Goodwin Place. A memorial service was held Oct. 5 in Vale. Lienkaemper Chapel of Ontario was in charge of arrangements.

David was born Aug. 11, 1949, to Leo Eugene Messer and Elizabeth Lucille Jenson in Great Falls, Mont. He attended Great Falls schools and graduated from Charles M. Russell High School.

He took courses in land surveying with the Montana State Highway Department and North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and obtained his Montana State Land Surveyor-in-Training license.

In 1977, David married Nadine Hayes in Sandpoint, Idaho. They lived in the greater Seattle area and Kalispell, Mont., where he worked for 20 years in the private land surveying field and Nadine taught elementary school.

In 1989 the couple moved to Pendleton, where David earned associate degrees with honors in civil engineering technology and math/computer science from Blue Mountain Community College.

In 1995 he opened a computer consulting business, which he operated in Pendleton and, since 2007, in Vale. He enjoyed reading, photography, travel, ham radio and working with computers.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine of Jamieson; brother, Stephen Messer, of Fairbanks, Alaska; sisters, Cheryl Hansen, of Hartland, Wis., Judy Parker of Mesquite, Nev., Beverly Rogers of Whitesburg, Ky., and Susan Guerrero of Hoodsport, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Nancy Messer.



William ‘Bill’ Morgan Jr.

Formerly of Enterprise,

La Grande

1941-2009

William ‘Bill’ Douglas Morgan Jr., 68, of Wellton, Ariz., and formerly of La Grande and Enterprise, died Oct. 1. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Community Church in Enterprise.

Bill was born Sept. 8, 1941, the eldest child of Doug and Betty Morgan in La Grande. He was raised in Enterprise along with his nine siblings and graduated from high school there in 1959. He met Sue, the love of his life, one summer while staying on his grandparents’ ranch up Coos River.

Bill went in the U.S. Navy out of high school and was released on a medical discharge after a short period of time.

Bill married Rosemary “Sue” Wardlaw in July 1962, and they started their family soon after while living in Eastside. Bill’s son, Kyle, was born in February 1965, and Creighton was born in August 1966.

Bill worked for the city driving a street sweeper. He worked in a lumber mill and drove logging trucks. In 1969 Bill moved his family to North Bend, where they bought their first house. In 1979, Bill and his family moved to Enterprise, where he and his wife became business owners.

In 1986 Bill and Sue moved to Klamath Falls, where he began working for the state of Oregon. He transferred in 1989 to Cascade Locks and then to Irrigon in 1992. Bill retired from the state in 2000.

After spending several winters in Yuma, Ariz., Bill and Sue had a home built in nearby Wellton in 2007.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, amateur radio, racing, four-wheeling and golfing.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sue Morgan; sons, Creighton and Kyle and his wife, Kelley; four grandsons; father, Doug; siblings, Hank, Mike, Sam, Mary, David, Ruth, Susan, Tom and Rose; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Betty, and his niece, Tina Wagner.
