La Grande Ranger District
Union County, Oregon
On October 25, 2010, District Ranger Kurt Wiedenmann, made a decision to implement Alternative two of the Blue Fly Fuels Reduction project. The project is located approximately 35 miles southwest of the City of La Grande, OR. in sections of T.5S, R.35E, Willamette Meridian in the vicinity of the Blue Springs summer home tract, Vey Meadow, road 5155, and Johnson Rock. This project will modify fire behavior on public lands to improve firefighting opportunities to direct and indirect attack wildfires, provide for protection of private lands and private homes and structures as well as administrative sites located on public lands, and improve fire fighter and public safety. Approximately 2,000 acres are proposed for treatment (fuels reduction, prescribed fire, release treatments, piling, slash busting). Approximately 795,000 board feet of sawtimber and wood fiber will be recovered. No temporary road construction is required.
This project was authorized under the Healthy Forest Restoration Act (HFRA). The objection process pursuant to 36 CFR 218 has been completed. This decision is not subject to appeal pursuant to 36 CFR 215.12(i).
For more information or to receive a copy of the decision document, contact Cindy Christensen, Environment Coordinator, at the La Grande Ranger District, 3502 Hwy 30, La Grande, OR., (541) 962-8501.
