A final push for fireworks donations

Union County residents and visitors to our area will be treated to a great Fourth of July celebration Monday night at Community Stadium. Music, food, games for kids and, of course, fireworks, will provide a fun evening of entertainment.
Donations from the community make the fireworks show possible every year. Many donations have been received and people are buying raffle tickets for a slew of great prizes that will be awarded July 9. Fundraising, overall, has gone well, but more still needs to be raised to collect the $10,000 needed for this year’s show and hopefully have some seed money for next year.

Every year Union County government provides $2,500 for the show, since it is an event geared for the whole county and for visitors. Beau Willadsen, owner of McDonald’s, graciously chipped in $1,000 again this year. The Union Pacific La Grande Employees Club No. 17 is donating $500. Horizon Wind and Vestas have both pledged $500. ReMax Real Estate donated $250. Numerous individuals have chipped in $100 or $50 donations. The Observer is donating all the newspaper ad space for the campaign.

For the raffle, M.J. Goss Motor Co. is donating a car. La Grande Gold & Silver is donating a pair of diamond earrings valued at $1,000. Waldrop Oil is donating 100 gallons of gas. Les Schwab Tires is donating a $500 gift certificate. Numerous local merchants have donated a multitude of other prizes. Various local groups are selling tickets for the raffle and splitting the proceeds with the Union County Fireworks Action Committee, the all-volunteer group that organizes the event each year. Tickets for the raffle will be available at Community Stadium Monday night.

It’s a broad-based appeal for an event that benefits the whole community. Any dollar amount helps, and all donations made directly to the Fireworks Action Committee are tax-deductible. Donations can be sent to UCFAC, P.O. Box 135, La Grande 97850.

Please help out the cause and help the committee put on a great show Monday night.
