Attend economic summit
One person wanting work who can’t find a job is one too many. One young person, or older for that matter, who has to move out of Northeast Oregon to points far away to find work is one too many.
To influence economic growth and stability in the region, the La Grande City Council and the Union County Board of Commissioners are sponsoring an Economic Summit from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Blue Mountain Conference Center.
The public is invited to join economic development leaders for the event.
As anyone who looks at the economy knows, La Grande and all of Eastern Oregon have been in the economic doldrums for years. The Great Recession hasn’t helped. Joblessness remains high.
The summit will begin with an overview of the local economy. Then economic development organizations will give short presentations on their recent economic development efforts. After that, summit participants will gather into small groups to discuss ideas. Finally, key economic development players will talk about the ideas that have been presented by the small groups and discuss possible next steps.
Many people in the community have experience and ideas that would be helpful in the discussion.
The more people who attend, the better as leaders try to shape an economic plan that contributes to growth and stability going forward.
